Netflix Drops Cryptic Teaser for ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’
Netflix just gave fans a first look at the next Knives Out movie, and the trailer is as mysterious as ever. The new film is called Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and it’s the third entry in the popular whodunnit series starring Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc.
The teaser trailer doesn’t give much away, but that’s part of the fun. It slowly pans up to the top of a church steeple while church bells ring out. A Bible verse flashes on screen: “The wicked desire the stronghold of evildoers, but the root of the righteous endures.” That’s it, and yet fans are already buzzing, trying to guess what kind of mystery Blanc will have to solve this time.
The movie is set to hit Netflix sometime in the second half of 2025, though there’s no exact release date yet.

The Knives Out series, created by Rian Johnson, has become a major hit since the first film came out in 2019. It introduced audiences to the clever and quirky Benoit Blanc, and the second movie, Glass Onion, followed in 2022 with a new case and cast. Both films earned praise from critics and even picked up Oscar nominations, one for Best Original Screenplay and another for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Rian Johnson talked about what makes these movies so much fun to make in a recent post on social media. “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” he said. “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
Johnson seems ready to take the character and the genre in another bold direction with this next film. And while we don’t know much about the story yet, the trailer is already doing what a good mystery does best, leaving us with more questions than answers.
