Netflix Releases Shocking True Crime Documentary ‘The Crash’
Netflix has unveiled a gripping true crime documentary titled The Crash, which is already eliciting strong reactions from its audience. Many viewers are labeling it as one of the most intense and emotionally challenging true crime offerings the platform has released in recent years.
Now available on Netflix, the documentary delves into a real case from Strongsville, Ohio, focusing on a tragic car crash that involved three young individuals. The incident saw a vehicle speeding at nearly 100 miles per hour into a building, resulting in the deaths of two young men, while one person survived.
Central to the case is Mackenzie Shirilla, who was just 17 years old at the time. The documentary reveals that she was driving her boyfriend Dominic and his friend Davion home after a night out.
What initially appeared to be a horrific accident soon became the subject of a deeper investigation, raising questions about the events leading up to the crash.
The film investigates the relationships among those involved, presenting conflicting accounts of that fateful night. It also scrutinizes the evidence that prompted investigators to reconsider whether the incident was accidental or intentional.
Running for 94 minutes, the documentary incorporates police footage, surveillance videos, and interviews with individuals connected to the case. Some of the most unsettling material includes dashcam and security camera recordings that capture the vehicle’s speed before the crash, along with emergency response footage arriving at the scene.
Family members of the victims appear in the film, alongside members of Mackenzie Shirilla’s family. Notably, the documentary features a prison interview with Shirilla, which has been highlighted in early reviews as one of the most emotionally challenging segments.
Ultimately, the case led to Shirilla’s conviction on multiple felony charges. The film offers various perspectives on the incident, allowing viewers to witness how the investigation unfolded and how the narrative evolved in court.
Critics and viewers have shared diverse opinions about the documentary, with some describing it as deeply unsettling, while others commend its compelling storytelling and production quality. One early response labeled it a “deeply disturbing documentary that lingers in your mind long after it concludes.”
Another review noted that it is a “well-produced true crime film that keeps viewers engaged from start to finish.”
Directed by Gareth Johnson, the documentary features contributions from Rosie Graham among others.
