Netflix Renews ‘Stranger Things Tales From ’85’ for Season 2
Netflix continues to explore the universe of ‘Stranger Things’ with the official renewal of its animated spinoff, ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’, for a second season.
This announcement comes just days after the first season debuted on April 23. Created by showrunner Eric Robles and produced by the Duffer Brothers, the series expands the beloved ‘Stranger Things’ universe in a new animated format.
Set between the events of Seasons 2 and 3 of the original series, the story unfolds in the winter of 1985. Hawkins is still grappling with the aftermath of previous events while life appears to be settling down.
In this animated tale, familiar faces like Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max return to their daily lives, attending school and enjoying games. However, this tranquility is short-lived.
An official synopsis reveals that Hawkins is once again facing strange occurrences. A new mystery begins to emerge beneath the town, drawing the group back into peril. The narrative hints at connections to the Upside Down, Hawkins Lab, and other mysterious forces.
Showrunner Eric Robles expressed his excitement about the renewal, stating, “Working on Season 1 has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Now that it’s out in the world, seeing fans connect with these characters has been truly special… We’re thrilled to return to the winter of ’85 for Season 2. The Hawkins Investigators Club is back, and a new paranormal threat has emerged from the town’s abandoned silver mines.”

He also hinted that the upcoming season will delve deeper into the mysteries introduced earlier, including peculiar clues linked to the Upside Down.
Unlike the live-action series, the original cast members from ‘Stranger Things’ will not reprise their roles in voice form. Instead, a new voice cast will bring the animated characters to life. Notable returning voices include Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, and Odessa A’zion as a new character named Nikki.
Season 2 is anticipated to premiere in the fall, although Netflix has yet to announce a specific release date. This news follows the conclusion of the main ‘Stranger Things’ series, which wrapped its five-season run.
Despite the end of the live-action series, interest in the franchise remains robust. Season 1 of ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ reached No. 7 on Netflix’s global Top 10 list, garnering millions of views and marking one of the platform’s most successful animated debuts.
This renewal indicates that Netflix is committed to this universe, as the fan base continues to thrive. The animated format allows for greater storytelling possibilities without depending on the original cast. Do you believe this spinoff can thrive independently, or should the franchise have concluded with the main series?
