Netflix is set to captivate audiences this summer with ‘The East Palace’, a Korean supernatural mystery that intertwines royal intrigue, dark spirits, and a long-standing curse.

The streaming service has unveiled the main trailer and promotional posters for the series, which is scheduled to premiere globally on July 17. The cast includes Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo, and Cho Seung-woo, who portray characters ensnared in a perilous mystery within a haunted royal palace.

Set against the backdrop of the human realm and a shadowy spirit dimension called the Realm of Gwi, the narrative follows Gu-cheon, played by Nam Joo-hyuk, who possesses a unique ability to traverse both worlds. His extraordinary gift draws the attention of the king, who seeks his assistance to address a menacing issue threatening the palace.

According to Netflix, the king has been grappling with a mysterious curse for three decades. As strange occurrences resurface, he discreetly enlists Gu-cheon to investigate. He is accompanied by Saeng-gang, a court lady portrayed by Roh Yoon-seo, who can hear the voices of spirits.

Together, Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang must unravel the mystery behind the curse while confronting perilous supernatural forces. Their quest uncovers hidden truths linked to the royal family, gradually revealing a dark history that has remained concealed for years.

The newly released trailer offers fans a glimpse into the eerie ambiance of the series. While the palace appears majestic and beautiful, an unsettling feeling lingers beneath the surface. A menacing spirit warns the king of its intent to obliterate the royal bloodline, compelling him to recruit Gu-cheon for a covert mission within the palace.

As the trailer progresses, Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang are depicted navigating between the human world and the Realm of Gwi. Each encounter with spirits unveils more clues regarding the curse, while the palace grows increasingly unstable as long-buried secrets resurface.

Directed by Choi Jung-kyu, known for his work on ‘The Devil Judge’ and ‘Children of Nobody’, the series features a screenplay by writers Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, who previously collaborated on ‘Bulgasal: Immortal Souls’ and ‘The Guest’.

Director Choi Jung-kyu praised the cast’s performances, particularly Nam Joo-hyuk, stating, “From the first time I saw Nam Joo-hyuk, I was convinced he was the one who would choose to step into the Realm of Gwi and face his destiny.”

He also commended Roh Yoon-seo, saying, “I was sure her natural charm and strengths aligned perfectly with the role of Saeng-gang. While working with her, I realized she is a truly bold actress.”

Choi expressed excitement about collaborating with Cho Seung-woo again, adding, “He examines every tiny detail in building his character, and once the camera rolls, that preparation transforms into immensely powerful acting.”

With its blend of palace drama, mystery, and supernatural horror, ‘The East Palace’ promises to deliver a captivating tale filled with ghosts, secrets, and emotional struggles when it debuts on Netflix on July 17.
