Rockstar Games has always been known for its tight-lipped approach, but this week has shattered that reputation. What began as a trickle of unverified images has escalated into one of the most chaotic leak cycles the gaming industry has witnessed in years.

This frenzy revolves around ‘Grand Theft Auto VI,’ Rockstar’s most eagerly awaited release in over a decade, which has seen a surge of leaks over the past two days. A leaker named CYBERLEEK has been at the forefront, releasing increasingly detailed and unsettling footage.

The latest video, now the fifth in the series, may be the most alarming yet. It showcases protagonist Jason piloting a plane over parts of Vice City while flipping through various in-game radio stations. The clip concludes with a chilling personal touch from the leaker.

This personal touch features Jason landing the plane, pulling out a rifle, and firing into a wall to spell out the word “LEEK” with bullet holes. This suggests that the individual behind these leaks has real-time control over a playable build of the game, rather than just distributing pre-recorded clips.

This latest leak follows a rapid succession of earlier videos from the same source. CYBERLEEK’s initial release showcased Jason playing basketball, driving through the fictional region of Leonida, and encountering police trouble. Subsequent clips revealed car theft mechanics, surrender animations, taser use, melee combat, and an unseen cutscene. Additionally, a full map of Leonida leaked separately, outlining five distinct counties and several offshore locations.

The reveal of the radio stations has sparked excitement among long-time fans of the franchise, given the importance of licensed music in the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ experience. Among the stations featured in the plane footage was V-Rock, a name closely tied to the original ‘Vice City’ game, hinting that Rockstar may be reviving some nostalgic branding for the new installment, even though the full lineup remains officially unconfirmed.

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has already begun issuing copyright takedown notices in response to the leaks as they spread across social media. Despite these efforts, mirrors and reuploads have continued to emerge almost as quickly as the originals are taken down, complicating containment efforts.

This isn’t the first instance of unauthorized ‘GTA 6’ footage surfacing online. A significant leak in 2022 revealed early development footage, leading to a lengthy legal battle and resulting in the individual responsible being sentenced to an indefinite hospital order due to autism spectrum disorder affecting their understanding of the offense.

With so much material already leaked over just the past two days, from full-length gameplay clips to actual map data, this current leak cycle appears to be one of the most significant security breaches Rockstar has encountered ahead of a major release. Whether the studio will adjust its marketing timeline in response or continue toward its previously stated release window remains uncertain.

For a franchise that has built years of anticipation on carefully controlled reveals, the circulation of this much unauthorized footage so close to launch marks a notable departure from Rockstar’s usual strategy.
