Nick Cannon Says Son Can Date at 15 But Twin Sister Monroe Is Off-Limits

Nick Cannon is sharing the distinct rules he has for his 15-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, regarding dating.

During his appearance on The TMZ Podcast on Saturday, May 2, Cannon revealed that he treats his son and daughter differently in this aspect. The twins are the children of Nick Cannon and singer Mariah Carey.

Cannon admitted that he is more lenient when it comes to his son Moroccan dating, even expressing his support for it. However, his approach to Monroe is quite the opposite.

He stated, “My son [Moroccan] has been dating, and I’ve allowed it, I encouraged it.” When asked about Monroe, he firmly responded, “No, absolutely not.”

Cannon acknowledged that this might come off as a double standard, but he believes there are valid reasons behind it. He added, “First of all, it’s absolutely a double standard… there is a difference when parenting a son and then when parenting a daughter.”

He elaborated that he feels a greater need to protect Monroe due to specific risks and concerns he associates with raising a girl. He said, “I am more protective of my daughter because there [are] things out there that I have to protect my daughter from.”

Cannon also mentioned that he anticipates different emotional responses depending on which twin is involved. He believes his son would manage challenging situations differently than his daughter, which influences the rules he sets for them.

At one point, he expressed his strong protective instincts for Monroe, stating, “If somebody puts their hands on my daughter, I’m going to jail.”

Despite his strict approach, Cannon aims to maintain open communication with Monroe as she matures. He is already considering her future in college and recognizes that he cannot control everything indefinitely.

He remarked, “Hopefully, we’re having these open conversations. My daughter tells me any and everything… I want you to have all the questions answered.”

Cannon’s remarks followed the recent celebration of the twins’ 15th birthday with Mariah Carey. He shared a nostalgic video online alongside moments from a family outing to Six Flags Magic Mountain.

While the birthday post was filled with joy, his podcast comments reveal a more serious and protective side regarding his parenting approach towards his daughter compared to his son.
