Nicolas Cage has expressed his thoughts on who he believes is the best Spider-Man in films, and his choice may surprise some fans. The actor shared his opinion during a promotional interview for his series ‘Spider-Noir.’

When asked if he had seen all the Spider-Man films featuring various iterations of the character, Cage didn’t confirm whether he had watched every single movie. However, he provided a clear answer when discussing his favorite Spider-Man performance.

Cage selected Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man as his top choice. He praised Garfield’s acting, stating that he enjoyed his performance the most among the younger interpretations of Peter Parker.

He remarked, “I thought Garfield was a really great Spider-Man. I thought he did a really terrific job. He’s a marvelous actor.”

Cage elaborated that Garfield’s version felt the most intriguing and enjoyable for him to watch. While he didn’t delve into details about Tom Holland or Tobey Maguire, it was evident that Garfield made a significant impression on him.

The interview also featured a lighthearted moment where Cage was introduced to a “f—, marry, kill” game. He appeared puzzled by the rules and didn’t fully engage with the format. However, when asked to make a quick choice, he again pointed to Andrew Garfield, reiterating that Garfield was his favorite Spider-Man.

Although Cage did not provide a detailed comparison of all Spider-Man actors, his admiration for Garfield was straightforward and focused primarily on the acting rather than the films or storylines.

Currently, Cage is promoting ‘Spider-Noir,’ a new series where he portrays a different Marvel character. This show is distinct from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is not connected to Sony’s Spider-Verse films, taking place in its own unique version of the Marvel world.

In ‘Spider-Noir,’ Cage plays Ben Reilly, a character known in comics as a Spider-Man clone in certain storylines. However, the series alters his origin and character background.

Rather than following the conventional Spider-Man narrative, the series presents Ben Reilly with a different origin. In this version, his powers are acquired after being bitten by a prisoner involved in a failed super-soldier experiment during the Great War, diverging from the original comic storyline where Peter Parker gains his powers from a radioactive spider bite.

‘Spider-Noir’ emphasizes a darker and more grounded universe, reimagining familiar superhero concepts in a unique setting and tone. Cage’s role as Ben Reilly is part of this alternate universe storytelling approach.

Cage’s remarks about Spider-Man come at a time when various versions of the character are thriving in film and television. Tom Holland currently portrays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire have made comebacks in recent crossover films.

Despite the numerous portrayals, Cage’s choice clearly indicates a preference for Andrew Garfield’s interpretation. His praise was straightforward, focusing on acting performance rather than franchise scale or box office success.

This interview offers fans a glimpse into how actors perceive different versions of iconic characters. In Cage’s case, his favorite Spider-Man is evident, even if he didn’t provide an in-depth explanation.
