‘Euphoria’ actress Nika King has candidly addressed her limited appearance in the show’s latest season.
In season three, episode six titled “Stand Still and See,” King reprises her role as Leslie, Rue’s mother, portrayed by Zendaya. The scene features Rue on a phone call with her mother, navigating challenging personal decisions. Most of the interaction is seen from Rue’s perspective, with viewers catching only a fleeting glimpse of Leslie on the other end.
During her brief appearance, King’s character delivers just one line, “I love you, Rue.” While intended to be a poignant moment, it drew attention from fans due to the minimal screen time allotted in the episode.
Following the episode’s release, King took to social media with a mix of humor and surprise. She remarked, “I just watched the episode that I’ve been promoting all week — and my mom over here is clowning me!” Even her family poked fun at her limited screen time, with her mother quipping, “She said the internet waited all this time for me to just say one line.”
King also shared her mother’s reaction during the video, where her mother noted the lengthy gap between seasons. Her mother remarked, “three years,” referring to the time elapsed since season two in 2022 and the current season.
King responded with laughter and acceptance, saying, “Y’all I can’t do nothing but laugh at this. When your mama clown you. I don’t know. You better be glad I have a sense of humor. You better be glad I’ve got thick skin.”
In subsequent Instagram posts, King revealed that a longer version of her scene was filmed but ultimately cut from the final edit. She expressed that seeing a Bible on set during filming had a profound personal impact on her. She shared, “This scene didn’t make the cut but when I walked on set and saw this Bible on the table, I got emotional,” noting it reminded her of challenging moments in her own life.
This isn’t the first time King has discussed her role in the series. In previous interviews and stand-up routines from 2024, she humorously addressed the lengthy gaps between seasons and their financial implications.
