Film festivals often highlight seasoned veterans, but occasionally, newcomers steal the spotlight. The Newport Beach Film Festival has earned a reputation for blending established stars with emerging talent, and this year’s honors event showcased that mix beautifully. Among the rising stars making waves was Inde Navarrette.

The 27th annual festival runs from October 15 to 22, featuring over 100 feature films from around the globe. The Festival Honors event took place on Sunday, October 18, at Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach, California, marking the festival’s third day. The ceremony was filmed for airing on PBS SoCal during the awards voting window in January.

Inde Navarrette graced the red carpet at the Newport Beach Film Festival Honors as one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch. She dazzled in a periwinkle satin gown adorned with red-and-pink floral details, featuring a high neck and a fringed skirt with a daring high slit. Her look was completed with red heels, and the stunning photos from the event have been widely shared.

This appearance capped a busy weekend for Navarrette, who transitioned straight from the Academy Museum Gala on Saturday to the festival on Sunday, where she was honored at the Honor Brunch. She had the chance to meet several of her long-time idols.

In an interview with Variety’s Marc Malkin on the carpet, Navarrette described the gala as “amazing.” She expressed feeling overwhelmed by the presence of those she has admired for years, stating, “You’re just overwhelmed and kind of drowning in everybody that you have looked up to, possibly ever.” She felt honored to be among Academy members and to gain insights into that world.

Navarrette highlighted icons Jessica Lange and Pamela Anderson, praising their grace, honesty, and creativity—qualities she aspires to embody. For a young actress still at the beginning of her career, her starstruck enthusiasm was palpable.

The honors event recognized a variety of talented performers and filmmakers. Taraji P. Henson received the Artist of Distinction Award, Jack O’Connell was honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Acting Award, and Mckenna Grace earned the Spotlight Award. Sosie Bacon received the Breakout Award, while casting director Sarah Finn was recognized with the Casting Visionary Award.

Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch class also included Esmé Creed-Miles, Mariana Di Girólamo, Rosalind Eleazar, Guitarricadelafuente, Summer H. Howell, Jaafar Jackson, Ruth Madeley, Ray Nicholson, and Joseph Zada. Navarrette was acknowledged for her role in ‘Obsession,’ the low-budget horror film that catapulted her to fame. The film has become a true phenomenon, surpassing ‘Enter the Dragon’ as the highest-grossing film ever made on a budget under $1 million.

Looking ahead, Navarrette’s future is even brighter. She has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming ‘X-Men’ film, where she will portray Rogue. Additionally, she is gearing up to host the ‘Saturday Night Live’ Halloween episode, marking a significant expansion for an actress who rose to fame in a horror film.

She is already preparing for the physical demands of her superhero role. Stunt training, she humorously noted, is a welcome change. “I’m the laziest person, and I am very excited to get up and move my body,” she shared with Variety, a candid remark that resonated with fans as she embarks on a challenging franchise role.

Navarrette’s festival look was particularly striking, contrasting with her gala outfit from the night before. While she opted for a couture polka-dot statement at the Academy Museum Gala, her Newport Beach ensemble embraced sunlit florals and movement. The playful fringe hem perfectly suited the coastal atmosphere.

Her red-carpet appearances have garnered significant attention this year. Few young actors have experienced such a rapid rise, transitioning from a micro-budget horror hit to a Marvel role and hosting gig in just a few months. Each new carpet photo feels like a chapter in a larger narrative.

For a festival dedicated to discovering new talent, she was the perfect face for the evening.
