‘Only Murders in the Building’ is significantly expanding its cast as production shifts to London for the first time in the series’ history.

Currently being filmed in the UK, this marks the first time the series has ventured outside New York City. The main trio—Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, portrayed by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez—will now be delving into a new mystery set in London.

The cast additions are substantial, featuring many well-known British actors. Among the prominent names joining in recurring roles are David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, and Jodie Whittaker. Additionally, Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, and Kathryn Hunter are also set to appear.

This trend of incorporating high-profile guest stars continues, but this season’s list is particularly extensive and focused on UK talent. Many of the new cast members are recognized from major franchises, including ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Harry Potter’, and ‘Bridgerton’.

David Tennant stands out as one of the most recognizable names in the lineup, known for his roles as the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. Nicola Coughlan joins after gaining international acclaim for her role in ‘Bridgerton’. Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to portray the Doctor, brings her own ‘Doctor Who’ legacy. Jim Broadbent is celebrated for his extensive film career, including roles in ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Iris’, while Richard Ayoade is known for his work in ‘The IT Crowd’ and as a film director.

The report indicates that production is already in progress, with the story transitioning to a new setting outside the United States. This move to London represents a significant shift in the show’s format and tone.

Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the show continues to receive executive production support from Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Dan Fogelman, and others involved in the long-running series. The creative team has maintained a consistent structure, blending comedy, mystery, and guest-driven storytelling.

According to Deadline, this season will also feature a lengthy list of additional recurring and guest actors announced earlier, including names like Jennifer Saunders, Martin Freeman, Sharon Horgan, and others. This makes the upcoming season one of the most star-studded in the show’s history.

While specific plot details remain scarce, the transition to London and the expanded cast hint at a larger, more international mystery for the trio to unravel. The show’s signature blend of humor and crime storytelling will continue, but the new setting elevates the scale.

Currently, no release date has been confirmed for the new season, but filming is ongoing. The casting update indicates that the series is expanding its ambitions as it embarks on a new chapter beyond its original locale.
