James Gunn’s DC Universe has become one of the industry’s best-kept secrets, and few actors have worked as hard as Adria Arjona to protect her role from spoilers. Since her casting in the Superman follow-up ‘Man of Tomorrow’ was announced, fans have been eager to uncover the character she will portray.

As production wrapped and press commitments increased, the mystery surrounding her role only deepened. Gunn’s sequel, which brings together David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, focuses on Superman and Lex Luthor teaming up against Brainiac. The film has also added a talented new cast, including Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Milly Alcock, and Lars Eidinger alongside Arjona.

For months, speculation about Arjona’s character has swirled, with fans debating whether she will portray the DCU’s version of Maxima or take on the iconic role of Wonder Woman. Arjona recently addressed these rumors, stating that the idea she “may be, or may be not playing Maxima… or Wonder Woman” is the wildest thing she has ever heard about herself.

This teasing has become a pattern for her, and during a recent appearance on Screen Rant’s Coffee Chats series, Arjona shared how challenging it has been to navigate interviews without revealing too much. “I don’t want to lie, but I also want to protect the audience’s experience,” she explained. “It’s a little dance that I’m learning to navigate, and it’s hard. It’s really hard. I almost got busted.”

The near-slip occurred when she was asked to provide three spoiler words that fans wouldn’t be able to piece together without seeing the film. Arjona admitted she had three words in mind but caught herself, humorously noting that she had “just got into the DC universe” and didn’t want to risk being fired before her character even debuts.

This isn’t the first time she has come close to revealing too much. In a conversation with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Arjona expressed her excitement about her costume, mentioning that she loves both of her outfits, which only fueled speculation that her character might be linked to multiple comic book identities.

Beyond the secrecy, Arjona has been open about the physical demands of her role. She previously told Screen Rant that she has developed “muscles that I’ve never had in my life” while training two to three hours a day on a strict diet, primarily fueled by coffee, to prepare for the action her role entails.

A personal aspect of the project for Arjona is the reunion it represents. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ marks her first collaboration with Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran in nearly a decade, as they gave her one of her first major film roles in 2016’s ‘The Belko Experiment.’ She described returning to set with them as an emotional full-circle moment, especially since her scenes wrapped just as the larger production was concluding.

This timing, combined with her insistence on remaining tight-lipped, has intensified fan theories suggesting her role could be a smaller appearance meant to set up a larger DCU future. Whether this means an introduction for Wonder Woman or something entirely different, Arjona is clearly not planning to confirm anything before ‘Man of Tomorrow’ hits theaters in 2027.

Until then, fans will have to decipher every near-slip and costume comment for clues, a game that Arjona seems to enjoy just as much as her audience does.
