Peacock Greenlights ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ Series From Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door
Peacock is officially advancing with a new live-action series inspired by Matt Dinniman’s acclaimed ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ book series. The streaming platform has granted a straight-to-series order, bringing this wild sci-fi adventure to the small screen.
The project is being developed by Universal Global Television in collaboration with Seth MacFarlane’s production company, Fuzzy Door. The rights to Dinniman’s books were acquired in 2024, and the project has now progressed to a full series order.
Chris Yost, recognized for his contributions to projects like ‘Maul: Shadow Lord’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ will write the series and take on the role of executive producer. Yost will collaborate closely with Dinniman as they transition the story from page to screen.
Dinniman shared the exciting news with fans on Instagram, celebrating the official green light from Peacock.
“I’m thrilled to announce that our friends at Peacock have officially greenlit the ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ television series!” Dinniman expressed. “Chris Yost, Seth MacFarlane, and his team at Fuzzy Door are all eager to get started.”
The author also announced that he and Yost will participate in a panel at Comic-Con in July to discuss the ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ adaptation.
The series presents a unique and chaotic narrative that blends science fiction, fantasy, comedy, and survival. In the universe of ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl,’ Earth has been devastated by an alien invasion, leaving the remaining humans trapped in a perilous game show viewed by audiences across the galaxy.
Peacock’s official synopsis reveals that the story centers on Carl, a former Coast Guard member who must fight for survival alongside an unexpected ally: his ex-girlfriend’s famous pet cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk.
The series description states, “An alien invasion has wiped out most of humanity and any survivors are forced to fight for their lives on a sadistic intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? Now try doing it with bare feet and a stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner.”
The narrative unfolds within Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, where survival transforms into entertainment. Carl and Princess Donut must confront monsters, aliens, artificial intelligence, and even other humans while striving to stay alive for the cameras.
This unusual blend of action, humor, and eccentric characters has allowed the book series to cultivate a significant fan base. The forthcoming TV adaptation aims to capture that same unpredictable energy in a live-action format.
Seth MacFarlane will executive produce the series alongside Erica Huggins and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald for Fuzzy Door. Yost will also serve as an executive producer, while Dinniman will contribute as a co-executive producer.
With MacFarlane’s production company backing the project and Peacock supporting the adaptation, ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’ is poised to become one of the streamer’s most significant genre projects. Further details regarding casting, production, and a release date have yet to be announced.
