‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Introduces Major Character for ‘Power: Origins’
The final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan has made a significant move within the franchise by introducing a younger version of a character who will play a crucial role in the broader Power universe.
In the latest episode of the Starz series, Tiana (played by Asjha Cooper) reveals a key detail about her past during a conversation with Kanan (Mekai Curtis). When he inquires about her real name, she discloses it: Jarita.
This revelation confirms that Tiana is indeed Jarita, who will later become the mother of Kanan’s son, Shawn, in the original Power series. The connection ties the current storyline directly to future events in the franchise timeline.
Jarita will continue to appear as a guest character in the final season of Raising Kanan, and she is expected to become a series regular in the upcoming prequel series Power: Origins. This new show is currently in production in New Jersey and will delve into the early histories of key characters within the Power universe.
For long-time viewers, Jarita is not an entirely new name. The character made a brief appearance in Power Season 2, portrayed by Tasha Smith, but her role was much smaller and not fully explored at that time.
The upcoming series Power: Origins will focus on younger versions of several major characters, including Ghost, Tommy, and Kanan. It will depict their rise through New York’s criminal underworld before the events of the original series. Spence Moore will portray Ghost, Charlie Mann will play Tommy, and Zuri Reed will take on the role of Tasha. Mekai Curtis will also reprise his role as young Kanan.

The show is set to have an ambitious first season with 18 episodes, making it one of the more extensive entries in the franchise to date. This is part of a larger expansion of the Power universe, which continues to grow with multiple spin-offs and timelines.
In addition to Raising Kanan and Power: Origins, Starz is also developing another series titled Power: Legacy. This show will feature Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr., continuing the narratives of characters from the original series.
The franchise is overseen by a large creative team, with Sascha Penn serving as showrunner and executive producer for both the final season of Raising Kanan and Power: Origins. The series are developed from the work of Courtney Kemp, the creator of the original Power. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson also serves as an executive producer through G-Unit Film and Television, alongside Mark Canton, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox, and Pete Chatmon. Lionsgate Television produces the shows for Starz.
The introduction of Jarita exemplifies how the Power franchise intricately connects its storylines across various shows. By linking characters from both past and future series, the universe continues to build a cohesive narrative that transcends a single timeline.
