‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ Release Date and Where to Stream
When ‘Ready or Not’ debuted in 2019, few could have predicted how its blood-soaked, darkly comedic take on class satire would resonate within horror culture. The film quickly garnered a dedicated cult following, making the announcement of a sequel feel more like a long-awaited reunion than a mere Hollywood cash grab. Fans were eager for the return of director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the Radio Silence team behind the original, and they got their wish.
‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ premiered at the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival on March 13, before hitting theaters across the United States on March 20, distributed once again by Searchlight Pictures. The sequel picks up right after the events of its predecessor, with Samara Weaving reprising her role as Grace MacCaullay, who must now protect her estranged younger sister Faith, portrayed by Kathryn Newton, while being hunted by four rival elite families vying for ultimate power.
Now, fans who missed the theatrical release can rejoice. According to Cosmic Marvel on X, ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ is set to stream on Hulu and Disney+ starting July 2. As a production from Searchlight Pictures, a Disney subsidiary, its arrival on these platforms was anticipated, with the July date falling approximately 100 days after its theatrical debut. The official poster confirms the streaming date alongside both platforms, marking the film’s first wide home viewing opportunity.
The sequel has received a 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from over 200 critics, with the consensus praising Samara Weaving’s fierce commitment to her role, helping the film avoid the dreaded sequel curse. Financially, it grossed around $42.9 million worldwide against a production budget of $14 million, indicating a modestly successful theatrical run.
The opening weekend faced tough competition from the Ryan Gosling blockbuster ‘Project Hail Mary’, which likely drew younger audiences away during that initial frame.
The ensemble cast surrounding Weaving is another highlight of the film. Joining her are Sarah Michelle Gellar as Ursula Danforth, Elijah Wood as a mysterious representative of Le Bail known only as the Lawyer, Shawn Hatosy as Titus Danforth, and legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg as the patriarch of the Danforth family.
In an interview with Moviefone, Weaving succinctly described what newcomers can expect: “Just buckle up. Get ready. It’s going to get weird.”
Both Weaving and Newton noted that the production was the bloodiest of their careers, with Newton claiming it surpasses even her gory work in ‘Abigail’. The score, composed by Sven Faulconer in a style he describes as baroque-meets-slaughter, features a viola da gamba to reflect the expanded mythology of the film’s High Council, adding an unsettling layer of grandeur to the chaos.
For those who loved the original and have been eagerly awaiting to experience Grace’s nightmare from the comfort of their couch, July 2 now carries a very specific kind of chaos. Whether this sequel surpasses the original or falls short of that lightning-in-a-bottle first film is a debate worth having in the comments.
