You know how certain anime and manga series have very long names? Well, the full title of the light novel series we are going to talk about in here is Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, but Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out for Revenge on My Former Party Members and the World.

Shortened as Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon, the light novel series by Shisui Meikyō began in 2021 (the original novel series appeared in 2020) and this fantasy harem series focused on revenge will now be getting an anime series later this year.

Alongside a new trailer, numerous cast and crew members’ information has been released, so if you want to know more about the series, keep reading!

The trailer seems quite interesting and we can confirm that the anime will premiere during the Fall 2025 season, although a precise release date has not been given at this moment.

Katsushi Sakurabi (Flying Witch, The Betrayal Knows My Name) will be directing the anime series at J.C.STAFF, with Hiroshi Ohnogi (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kekkaishi) in charge of series, scripts, and Yukie Suzuki (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) as the character designer. Yoshikazu Iwanami (Ajin, Fate/Zero, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) will be the sound director, while Ryō Takahashi (High Card, Wind Breaker) will be composing the music.

As for the cast members, so far, we can confirm that Nina Tamaki as will voice Light and that Ikumi Hasegawa will appear as Mei. Other cast members will be revealed at a later date.

In case you don’t know what the series is about, here is a short synopsis:

When Light is kicked out of the Concord of the Tribes, his former comrades instantly turn on him. Light escapes this diabolical act of betrayal by the skin of his teeth…only to find himself in the deepest part of the Abyss, the most dangerous dungeon in the realm! To avoid being eaten by carnivorous monsters, he uses the Unlimited Gacha, his sole magical skill. But where it previously only produced junk items, this time Mei—a gorgeous Level 9999 fighter in a maid outfit—springs forth! Fast forward three years and Light has carved out his own kingdom in this backwater dungeon, summoning more beautiful Level 9999 warriors who swear absolute fealty to him. Now a powerful Level 9999 Overlord himself, Light plans to ascend to the surface and take revenge on his betrayers one by one!
