Ryan Reynolds Says They Almost Killed Deadpool in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
Ryan Reynolds recently shared that there were serious talks about killing off Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie came out in U.S. theaters in July 2024 and stars Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
In an interview on The Box Office podcast with Scott Mendelson, Reynolds was asked if they ever thought about ending Wade Wilson’s story for good.
“There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one,” Reynolds said. “Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight. Finally figuring it out — I am such a needle-drop person, but I’m really working hard to embrace score. It was Rob Simonsen who really helped us get there by blending score, needle drop, and all these things that gave you that feeling we were working for.“
Reynolds said they even thought about a dramatic end where Deadpool gets deatomized, but Marvel wasn’t on board.
“Studios are like, of course, it’d be fun to play around with this guy in the future, because he’s a cheat code,” Reynolds explained. “He can say things that everyone might be thinking, and it gets you out of trouble.”
In the end, they chose to let Deadpool live. Reynolds said he was happy with that.
“I love playing him,” he said.
