Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G Movie Reportedly Finished Filming
Sacha Baron Cohen might be reviving one of his most iconic characters, as reports indicate that a new ‘Ali G’ movie has been completed. The project has been shrouded in secrecy, but entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider from The InSneider has revealed that the film is finished and may soon be seeking a distributor or release partner.
‘Ali G’ emerged as one of Cohen’s most significant creations in the early 2000s, debuting on the British comedy series ‘Da Ali G Show’. The character, a fictional wannabe gangster blending confidence with cluelessness, became renowned for his awkward interviews and surprising conversations with real individuals. Through ‘Ali G’, Cohen cleverly used humor to delve into stereotypes, social issues, and cultural differences.
The character played a crucial role in catapulting Cohen to global fame, alongside other notable personas like Borat and Brüno. At the time, many fans and critics considered Cohen’s approach groundbreaking, as he combined comedy with real-life reactions, often resulting in uncomfortable yet enlightening moments.
Initially reported as being in development prior to the Hollywood strikes of 2023, the new ‘Ali G’ project has now been confirmed as completed. However, it remains unclear whether the film has secured a distribution deal or if studios and streaming platforms are still deliberating on acquiring it.
The production seems to have taken place away from the public eye. Cohen was spotted in character as ‘Ali G’ in Oxfordshire, England, during July and September 2025, but details about the filming were scarce. A representative for Cohen has declined to comment on the project.
While fans of ‘Ali G’ may be thrilled at the prospect of the character’s return, this comeback also prompts questions about the relevance of the comedy style today. The character gained popularity during a vastly different cultural landscape, and some of the humor that made ‘Ali G’ famous may be interpreted differently by contemporary audiences.
Sneider shared his own reservations about the concept, stating that “Ali G in 2026 would feel strange because the comedy that made him so fresh has aged alongside the cultural moment that created him.” He noted that the world has changed significantly since the character first gained popularity, which could complicate the effectiveness of the same comedic approach.
In recent years, Cohen has explored various roles, including serious performances in projects like ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’ and ‘Disclaimer’. He also returned to comedy with Netflix’s ‘Ladies First’, which, despite receiving negative reviews, still captured viewer interest.
Despite his ventures into different genres, Cohen has not entirely abandoned the style that made him famous. A new ‘Ali G’ movie would represent a significant return to the character that helped shape his career and could provide fans with a chance to see if the controversial comedian can still astonish audiences.
Currently, details about the film remain sparse. There is no confirmed release date, studio, or streaming platform associated with the project, but with the movie reportedly completed, more information could be on the horizon.
