Samuel Goldwyn Films Acquires Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Cold Storage’ Starring Liam Neeson and ‘Stranger Things’ Joe Keery
You might not remember the 2006 alien comedy Alien Autopsy, which achieved moderate success in Britain, but that was director Jonny Campbell’s first feature. Since then, he has mostly done television work, including that on Doctor Who and Westworld, but he is now returning to the big screen.
The movie he is working on is Cold Storage and like his first film, it will be a blend of science-fiction and comedy. If anything, Campbell has proven himself to be a connoisseur of the sci-fi genre.
The movie doesn’t have a fixed release date yet, although the plan is to release it later this year, and we can now confirm that it has found its North American distributor.
The North American distribution rights for the movie have been acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films, who is hoping to distribute the movie nationwide later this year.
So, what is Cold Storage even about? As it has been revealed, the “film follows Teacake (Keery) and Naomi (Campbell), two employees at a self-storage facility built atop a former military base, whose night shift transforms into a nightmare when a government-sealed parasitic fungus escapes from the underground levels. As temperatures rise, the microorganism unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting mayhem on anything in its path. The duo must join forces with a weathered bioterror operative (Neeson) to contain the threat before it triggers humanity’s extinction.”
The premise sounds quite promising in terms of comedic potential, and if you add the solid cast to the tally, we could be in for a fun ride.
As it has been confirmed, the movie will feature Liam Neeson as Robert Quinn, Joe Keery as Travis Meacham, Georgina Campbell as Naomi Williams, Sosie Bacon as Dr. Hero Martins, Darrell D’Silva as The Rev, Daniel Rigby as Anthony, Rob Collins as Enos Minjarra, Ellora Torchia as Abigail, Vanessa Redgrave as Ma Rooney, and Andrew Brooke as Greg.
Lesley Manville and Aaron Heffernan have been cast in unspecified roles. Campbell is directing based on a script by David Koepp.
