Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Green Reunite in ‘Just Play Dead’ Trailer
Samuel L. Jackson has long demonstrated his ability to lead in various genres, and his latest project reunites him with a co-star audiences haven’t seen him alongside in years. The two previously shared the screen in Tim Burton’s 2016 fantasy film ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,’ although their interactions were limited.
Nearly a decade later, this dynamic duo is finally taking center stage. Jackson and Eva Green are back together, this time as the stars of a gripping marital thriller that swaps supernatural elements for deception, betrayal, and a hefty dose of insurance fraud.
The film, titled ‘Just Play Dead,’ has released its full trailer, offering viewers a closer look at a narrative focused on two spouses attempting to outsmart and ultimately outlive one another. Directed by Martin Campbell, renowned for ‘GoldenEye’ and ‘Casino Royale,’ the film follows wealthy criminal mastermind Jack Wolfe, portrayed by Jackson, who finds himself in a tight spot with federal investigators.
Jack’s plan is to fake his own death, claim a $30 million life insurance payout, and frame his wife Nora’s surfer lover, Chad, for the murder. Green plays Nora, who has been stifled by Jack’s controlling nature for years and has secretly devised her own plan: to actually kill Jack, frame Chad for it, and walk away with the fortune.
What ensues is a tense cat-and-mouse game where neither spouse can fully trust the other, and neither is willing to back down. Jack, always a step ahead, sets a trap designed to turn Nora and Chad against each other, pulling the unsuspecting lover deeper into a scheme he never intended to join. The film’s cast also features Maria Pedraza, known for ‘Money Heist,’ along with Eoin Macken, Lee Boardman, Jason Fernández, Nicole Ansari-Cox, and Dar Dash. The screenplay is penned by Dan Gordon, the writer behind ‘Rambo: Last Blood,’ ensuring the film boasts both slick genre storytelling and sharp dialogue.
Green has expressed her excitement about reuniting with Jackson, describing the project as an opportunity to explore dark comedy once more, a genre she has been eager to revisit. The production companies behind the film include Head Gear Films and Gemstone Films, with Highland Film Group managing international sales, and filming has reportedly wrapped in the Canary Islands.
‘Just Play Dead’ is slated for a theatrical release on November 12, making it a late-fall counter-programming option against the usual awards-season dramas. Given Campbell’s history with tightly woven thrillers and Jackson’s knack for elevating genre material, expectations are high for a film that fully embraces its twisty premise.
The trailer comes after the project generated excitement on the festival circuit, having secured international distribution deals during this year’s Cannes market. With its sun-soaked backdrop, high body count, and a battle of wits between two actors who clearly enjoy portraying morally ambiguous characters, ‘Just Play Dead’ is poised to be one of the more entertaining surprises of the fall movie season.
