Samuel L. Jackson Says He Makes Popcorn Movies, Not Oscar Bait: “People Are Out There Statue Chasing All the Time”

Samuel L. Jackson has been in more than 150 movies, but winning an Oscar has never been his main goal. He prefers roles that are fun and exciting, the kind of movies he loved watching as a kid.

In a newly published viral video the acting legend recently summarized his goals: “I do movies that I want to go and see … I do popcorn movies, I don’t do movies that I’m gonna get an Oscar for” “People [are out there] statue chasing all the time”

This is not the first time that Jackson has commented on this. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Jackson shared his thoughts on the Oscars. He said he doesn’t let awards define his success. “I was never going to let the Oscars be a measure of my success or failure as an actor. My yardstick of success is my happiness: Am I satisfied with what I’m doing?”

Jackson also mentioned that he’s not interested in making movies just to win awards. “I’m not doing statue-chasing movies. You know: ‘If you do this movie, you’ll win an Oscar.’ No, thanks. I’d rather be Nick Fury. Or having fun being Mace Windu with a lightsaber in my hand.”

He believes that acting should be enjoyable. “Movie sets are my playground. That’s my happy place,” he said in a CBS News interview. “I think movies should be entertaining. You know, popcorn movies, I love popcorn movies! Turn your brain off. You don’t have to figure out the plot, you don’t have to worry about who did it, you know? He did it! Now let’s have some fun!”
