‘Scary Movie 6’ Final Trailer Released With Hilarious Parody Moments
The final trailer for Scary Movie 6 has dropped, offering fans another glimpse into the return of this beloved parody franchise.
Set to hit theaters on June 5, the film promises to revive the classic comedic style that made the early Scary Movie films so popular, poking fun at well-known horror movies and pop culture.
Directed by Michael Tiddes, the movie features a writing team that includes Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. This sixth installment follows Scary Movie 5 from 2013 and is being hailed as a return to the comedic essence of the first two films.
The plot centers around a group of old friends who must reunite when a masked killer from their past resurfaces. This villain first emerged during events that transpired 26 years ago, forcing the group to confront their past once again.
The main cast features Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Jon Abrahams, and Anthony Anderson. Several familiar characters return, including Cindy Campbell, Ray Wilkins, Shorty Meeks, and Brenda Meeks.
A notable aspect of this production is the Wayans family’s significant involvement after a long hiatus from the franchise. According to production notes, this marks their first major collaboration on Scary Movie since Scary Movie 2 in 2001, following earlier creative disagreements.
The film was initially announced in 2024, with confirmation later that year that the Wayans brothers would return to write and produce it. Marlon Wayans described this reunion as a “rebooquel,” blending elements of both a reboot and a sequel.
The trailer showcases the film’s tradition of parodying contemporary horror films, featuring references to popular titles like Scream, Get Out, Smile, M3GAN, and The Substance, alongside appearances from iconic horror figures like Jason Voorhees and Leatherface.
Marlon Wayans has shared insights about the film’s direction in previous interviews, noting that recent horror films provide fresh material for the franchise. He highlighted movies such as Heretic, Longlegs, and Sinners as inspirations for the parody style.
The movie also revisits comedic elements from earlier entries, featuring familiar characters and exaggerated portrayals of pop culture figures. Kenan Thompson is set to appear in a parody role as Michael Jackson, a character that has made appearances in previous Scary Movie films.
Some scenes underwent changes during production, including a sequence parodying Terrifier 3, which was initially cut but later reinstated in a shorter format.
With a blend of returning cast members, new horror targets, and the Wayans family back at the helm, Scary Movie 6 aims to recapture the comedic spirit that endeared the original films to audiences.
Scary Movie 6 is set to release in the United States on June 5, through Paramount Pictures.
