‘Scrubs‘ made a surprising return to television earlier this year, bringing fans back to Sacred Heart Hospital more than 15 years after its original series concluded. The revival featured Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison reprising their iconic roles as J.D., Elliot, and Turk, reuniting a beloved cast that had been apart for over a decade since the show’s original nine-season run.

The first season of the revival debuted on ABC in February and quickly garnered praise from both critics and longtime fans, achieving a TVLine reader grade of A throughout its nine episodes. The season finale saw J.D., who had been working as a concierge doctor to spend more time with his children, drawn back into Sacred Heart after one of his patients was admitted, setting the stage for his full-time return alongside Turk, Carla, Elliot, and his mentor, Dr. Cox.

Following the positive reception, ABC renewed the show for a second revival season just two weeks later, marking the eleventh season overall in the show’s history. Recently, the network confirmed the premiere date for the new episodes, releasing a first-look teaser that announced the season will officially debut on Wednesday, September 30, with a special two-episode premiere on ABC.

After the premiere, new episodes will be available for streaming the following day on Hulu, maintaining the same release pattern established during the first revival season. The premiere will coincide with a busy night for ABC, sharing the September 30 slot with the return of ‘Shark Tank’ for its 18th season.

Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke are set to return as the leads, with John C. McGinley also reprising his role as Dr. Perry Cox. The revival will continue to feature newer cast members, including Ava Bunn as Dr. Sam Tosh, blending nostalgic and fresh faces that contributed to the first season’s success.

According to the show’s official fan wiki, Season 11 is expected to consist of 10 episodes and will wrap up in winter 2027, providing fans with a longer run compared to the nine-episode first season. This extended episode count indicates ABC’s commitment to allowing the revival to further develop its new storylines.

This fall marks the first time since Season 7 that ‘Scrubs’ has received a fall premiere date, aligning the show with some of ABC’s biggest returning hits, including ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘9-1-1: Nashville.’ This timing positions ‘Scrubs’ in a more competitive fall lineup than its February debut earlier this year, when it faced less competition for viewers. ABC’s broader fall schedule also features returning seasons of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘The Rookie,’ and ‘Will Trent,’ highlighting the packed nature of the network’s autumn offerings.

With the full cast returning and a slightly expanded episode count on the horizon, ‘Scrubs’ seems poised to build on the goodwill generated by its first revival season among both longtime fans and newcomers discovering Sacred Heart Hospital for the first time. With the core cast back in action and a stronger fall time slot, the series appears well-positioned to maintain its momentum heading into 2027.
