Sean Bean Shares Season 2 Production Update for ‘Robin Hood’
Sean Bean has confirmed his return to the world of ‘Robin Hood’ as production for season 2 of MGM+’s fantasy adventure series progresses. The actor, known for his role as the Sheriff of Nottingham, provided an exciting update about the show’s next chapter during an interview with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns, where he discussed his upcoming Western thriller, ‘The Isolate Thief.’
Bean mentioned that filming for ‘Robin Hood’ season 2 is set to commence soon in Belgrade. He shared that he was preparing to travel there to begin work on the new episodes, stating, “I was about to fly out to Belgrade” to kick off production in the coming weeks. He expressed his excitement about the series’ renewal, referring to it as “another iconic role that I’ve had the opportunity to play.”
The MGM+ series offers a fresh take on the classic ‘Robin Hood’ legend. Rather than solely focusing on the famous outlaw’s battles, the show delves into his early journey following the wrongful execution of his father. The young Saxon Robin starts to fight against injustice and ultimately becomes the leader of a group of outlaws striving to protect their home from the corrupt forces in Nottingham and the Norman rulers.
In addition to his quest for justice, Robin’s narrative also highlights his developing relationship with Marian of Huntingdon, the daughter of a Norman Earl. The series portrays their romance as part of the broader conflict between the Saxons and Normans, adding a personal dimension to the well-known legend.
‘Robin Hood’ features Jack Patten as Rob, Lauren McQueen as Marian, Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, Marcus Fraser as Little John Nailer, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. Sean Bean leads the cast as the Sheriff of Nottingham, bringing his extensive experience in fantasy roles to this character.
The show surprised many with its success after premiering in November 2025. Both critics and viewers responded positively, with the series earning impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and accolades for its action sequences, darker tone, and enhanced roles for female characters. It was officially renewed for a second season in February 2026 after captivating a large audience on MGM+.
The success of this adaptation of ‘Robin Hood’ is particularly noteworthy given the character’s challenging history on screen in recent years. Prior to MGM+’s series, the last significant television adaptation was the BBC’s ‘Robin Hood’ series that aired from 2006 to 2009. The 2018 film starring Taron Egerton also faced criticism, making the new series a welcome revival for the legendary character.

Viewers on MGM+ quickly embraced the show, with ‘Robin Hood’ reaching the top spot on the platform’s Top 10 list for much of its first season. Even months after the season 1 finale, the series has continued to rank among the platform’s most-watched shows.
With production now underway in Belgrade, fans may not have to wait long for new episodes. Based on the filming timeline of the first season, which took place in early 2025 and was released later that year, season 2 could potentially debut sometime in 2026. Sean Bean’s return as the Sheriff of Nottingham hints that the next chapter will carry on the action, drama, and battles that made the first season a success.
