Sophie Thatcher has finally addressed the swirling rumors linking her to Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot. While she hasn’t confirmed any involvement, the actress expressed her openness to joining a major franchise if the right opportunity arises.

The speculation surrounding Thatcher’s potential role has intensified as Marvel continues to develop its new ‘X-Men’ film. Fans have been actively guessing which actors might join the mutant universe, and Thatcher’s name has frequently surfaced in online discussions.

In an interview with The Playlist while promoting Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming film ‘Her Private Hell’, Thatcher was asked about the casting rumors. She admitted that she was unaware of the speculation until it was brought up.

“I haven’t heard that,” Thatcher said. “I’m open. I’m open to anything. I don’t really know that universe.”

Although she is primarily known for her work in smaller, unique projects, Thatcher clarified that she wouldn’t dismiss a big studio film solely based on its scale. For her, the most crucial aspect of any project is the story and the team behind it.

“If I connect with the script and if it’s something — because it’s on such a large scale — if it’s a story that can help us and, like, help an audience, inform an audience, if there’s empathy there, then I’m open,” she explained.

Thatcher emphasized that her choice of roles isn’t about avoiding commercial projects or focusing solely on independent films. Instead, she seeks meaningful projects that allow her to collaborate with respected creatives. “It’s just about, you know, the collaborator and the script,” she stated.

Known for taking on unconventional and challenging roles, Thatcher’s recent work includes the horror hit ‘Heretic’, where she starred alongside Hugh Grant, as well as projects like ‘Yellowjackets’ and ‘The Boogeyman’. Her performances often delve into complex characters, making her a popular choice among fans eager to see her join a major franchise.

Thatcher also clarified that she doesn’t want to impose strict boundaries on the types of films she makes. “I’m not ridding myself of ‘Well, I can’t do commercial. I can’t do this. I can’t do that.’ I’m incredibly open,” she remarked.

Marvel’s new ‘X-Men’ film is being directed by Jake Schreier, who recently worked on Netflix’s award-winning series ‘Beef’. The project aims to introduce a new iteration of the iconic mutant team after Marvel Studios regained control of the characters following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

While no official casting announcements have been made, several actors have been rumored for potential roles in the reboot. However, Thatcher’s comments indicate that, for now, nothing is confirmed.

The actress also made it clear that any potential role in a franchise would depend on whether the material resonates with her creatively.

For Marvel fans hoping to see Thatcher join the mutant world, her response is promising, even if it doesn’t serve as a confirmation. With the ‘X-Men’ reboot still in development, casting news is likely to remain a hot topic leading up to the film’s eventual production.
