Typically, blockbusters see their peak during the initial weekends and then gradually decline. However, Sony and Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has defied this trend, setting records upon its release and maintaining its stronghold on the charts. Even months after its debut, the web-slinger remains a box office powerhouse.

Tom Holland’s latest portrayal of Peter Parker premiered on July 31, quickly becoming the summer’s biggest sensation. It launched with an impressive $360 million domestically, surpassing the $357 million opening of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to secure the title for the largest opening weekend in box office history. Globally, it debuted at $932 million, marking the second-largest opening ever, just behind ‘Endgame.’

Currently, the box office total for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has reached approximately $2.516 billion worldwide, continuing to rise against a budget of $225 million. This achievement positions it as the third-highest-grossing film of all time, trailing only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Projections suggest it could finish close to $2.55 billion.

The film’s historic pace began right from the start. It reached $1 billion globally in just 6 days, making it the second-fastest film to achieve this milestone, following ‘Endgame.’ It crossed the $2 billion mark after its third weekend, becoming the eighth film in history to do so.

Additionally, it set records for being the fastest movie to reach $700 million, $800 million, and $900 million domestically. Sony confirmed it surpassed $800 million in just 19 days. Along the way, it overtook ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to become Sony’s highest-grossing film ever.

A significant milestone was reached in September when ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to become the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, breaking a record that had stood for a decade at $936.66 million. It achieved this feat just 47 days after its release.

The film has since climbed to around $955 million domestically, with approximately $1.55 billion coming from international markets. It is now only the second film to exceed $900 million in North America. These figures also establish it as the highest-grossing Spider-Man film, the highest-grossing solo superhero movie, and the highest-grossing film of 2026.

Now, the film joins the ranks of only three movies that have crossed the $2.5 billion mark globally, alongside ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ While ‘Avatar’ remains comfortably ahead with over $2.9 billion, ‘Endgame’ is set for a re-release that may further extend its lead. The likelihood of ‘Brand New Day’ surpassing ‘Endgame’ as the highest-grossing MCU film has diminished as its weekly earnings begin to slow.

Nonetheless, Sony reports that these impressive numbers have propelled Peter Parker to the top of the all-time character chart, with a cumulative total of $17.5 billion worldwide. Holland, who also starred in ‘Endgame,’ is now recognized as the highest-grossing actor of all time. Kevin Feige credits the film’s success to the lasting appeal of Peter Parker and Holland’s star power.

This success marks a much-needed win for Marvel Studios, which faced challenges at the box office in 2025 with underperforming titles like ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ Following a summer already filled with record-breaking performances, it demonstrates that audiences are still eager to flock to theaters for the right superhero film. Critics have largely praised the movie, highlighting Holland’s performance, the thrilling action sequences, and a more mature, character-driven narrative.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and a score by Michael Giacchino, the film features a star-studded cast including Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo. It remains Cretton’s and Zendaya’s highest-grossing film to date.

‘Spider-Man’ has also faced competition at the top, with Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ being the second-biggest film of the year. Together, these two titles have contributed to one of the strongest years for box office performances in recent history. Yet few films have demonstrated the same level of staying power as ‘Brand New Day,’ which continues to add to its total while its competitors fade.

For a character who has been captivating audiences for over 20 years, these figures serve as a reminder of the franchise’s enduring vitality.
