‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Continues to Dominate Box Office, Approaching Record
Typically, summer blockbusters start to lose momentum after Labor Day, as audiences turn their focus to fall releases and studios prepare for their next major films. However, Tom Holland’s latest ‘Spider-Man’ installment is defying this trend.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has maintained its position at the top of the domestic box office for six consecutive weekends. This remarkable run has made it the fastest film ever to surpass $900,000,000 domestically, breaking a record that ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ held for over 11 years. Even with the usual Labor Day slowdown, the film continues to generate impressive numbers, comparable to those of a new release.
Currently, the film’s domestic earnings are approximately $925,000,000, bringing it closer to ‘The Force Awakens’ all-time domestic record of $936,600,000. Industry analysts now estimate that ‘Brand New Day’ could finish its run with earnings between $950,000,000 and $960,000,000, potentially making it the highest-grossing film of all time in North America, not adjusted for inflation.
On a typically slower promotional day, ‘Brand New Day’ still showcased impressive performance. On its sixth Tuesday discount showing, the film earned $1,500,000, reflecting only a 42.9% drop from the previous Tuesday’s earnings. This decline is significantly steeper than that of other holdovers like ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which experienced a 35.3% drop, and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ which fell by 40.4%.
This strong performance occurred even as the film lost 158 theaters heading into the weekend, indicating that audience demand remains robust despite a shrinking theatrical presence in favor of new fall releases.
Notably, ‘Brand New Day’ is outpacing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at the same point in its release. While it started just $3,000,000 ahead of Endgame’s pace, it is now approximately $108,000,000 ahead of where Endgame was domestically at the same stage in its run, highlighting the film’s exceptional staying power.
This comparison is significant, as ‘Endgame’ was previously regarded as the benchmark for post-opening-weekend box office performance. ‘Brand New Day’ surpassing this standard by such a considerable margin places it in an exclusive category among modern blockbusters.

Much of this success can be attributed to the film’s positive reception from audiences right from the start. ‘Brand New Day’ received an A CinemaScore from opening weekend viewers, marking it as the second-highest grade awarded by the polling firm. This places it alongside ‘Homecoming,’ ‘Far From Home,’ and ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ in the franchise’s CinemaScore rankings, just below the A+ ratings of ‘No Way Home’ and ‘Into the Spider-Verse.’
With a Certified Fresh 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive 98% audience score, the film has benefitted from strong word-of-mouth, maintaining its momentum well beyond its record-breaking opening weekend, which set the all-time domestic single-day record with $168,000,000 on its debut Friday.
Since 2015, ‘The Force Awakens’ has held the title of the top domestic earner of all time, withstanding numerous challengers over the past decade. With ‘Brand New Day’ now closing in on that milestone in a matter of weeks rather than months, Sony and Marvel are on the brink of rewriting the domestic box office history.
Given the film’s impressive pace even deep into its theatrical run, it seems less a question of if ‘Brand New Day’ will claim the all-time domestic crown, but rather how high its final earnings will soar.
