Hollywood has been closely monitoring Tom Holland’s return to the Spider-Man suit, which has become one of the year’s biggest box office stories. With record-breaking trailer views and unprecedented presale numbers, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has generated buzz typically reserved for major franchise events.

The excitement has been building steadily since the film’s marketing campaign kicked off, featuring Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker four years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ concluded his previous trilogy. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film follows Parker as he secretly protects New York City while navigating a dangerous new evolution of his powers.

According to Deadline, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is currently projected to open domestically between 180 million and 190 million dollars. This figure represents the latest estimate as the film approaches its July 31 release, solidifying its status as one of the summer’s biggest theatrical events.

This estimate comes despite earlier tracking models suggesting even higher projections, with some outlets reporting figures exceeding 250 million dollars based solely on presale momentum. Regardless of the final estimate, the film has consistently been described as generating demand levels not seen for a superhero release since ‘No Way Home’, which earned 804.8 million dollars domestically and 1.91 billion dollars worldwide.

Much of this anticipation stems from an impressive presale performance. Deadline previously confirmed that ‘Brand New Day’ achieved the strongest first-day presales in the United States for any film in five years, a record previously held by ‘No Way Home’, which opened at 260.1 million dollars domestically and became the second-best opening weekend in box office history, just behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Fandango also reported that ‘Brand New Day’ became the platform’s biggest first-day preseller of the year, surpassing even Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. This comparison is significant, especially since ‘Brand New Day’ will be losing access to domestic IMAX screens during its opening weekend, as those premium auditoriums are committed to ‘The Odyssey’ through mid-August.

Generating such high demand without access to one of the industry’s most lucrative formats has been noted as one of the remarkable aspects of the film’s box office narrative. Industry observers suggest that audience enthusiasm for this character and cast is functioning independently of the usual format-driven boosts that typically enhance opening weekends.

The film’s box office trajectory sharply contrasts with some of its genre competitors this year, as reports indicate that other superhero releases have experienced significantly softer tracking leading up to their debuts. This discrepancy has sparked ongoing discussions in the industry about whether superhero fatigue is genuinely about the genre or simply about which specific franchises and characters continue to resonate with audiences.

With only weeks remaining before its release, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is firmly positioned as one of the defining theatrical events of the summer, regardless of where its final opening weekend number lands. Given how consistently the film has exceeded expectations throughout its marketing rollout, there remains ample opportunity for that tracking figure to shift again before opening night arrives.
