‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Surpasses ‘No Way Home’ at the Box Office
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is making a significant impact at the box office. The latest Marvel film featuring Tom Holland has already surpassed the Thursday preview earnings of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, setting it up for a potentially massive opening weekend.
As reported by Deadline, ‘Brand New Day’ has generated over $50 million from its domestic previews. This figure puts it ahead of ‘No Way Home’, which earned $50 million during its Thursday previews back in December 2021.
This early success is a promising sign for the new Spider-Man installment. ‘No Way Home’ went on to achieve one of the largest openings in box office history, raking in $260.1 million in its first three days in North America, trailing only behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which debuted with $357.1 million domestically.
‘Brand New Day’ seems poised to follow a similar trajectory. Deadline indicates that some sources believe the movie’s preview total could increase further, with estimates suggesting it might even exceed ‘Endgame’s’ $60 million preview record. A clearer picture will emerge once the complete Thursday results are available.
The film has also benefited from robust advance ticket sales, with reports estimating ‘Brand New Day’s’ advance sales at around $80 million, a remarkable figure considering its reported $225 million production budget.
The preview numbers are particularly impressive when viewed in context. ‘Brand New Day’ has now become the top preview performer for a Sony film and the strongest preview performer of the post-pandemic era. It has also secured a spot among the top three biggest domestic preview openings ever, following ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’

Another interesting aspect is that ‘Brand New Day’ has achieved all of this without access to domestic IMAX screens, which are currently occupied by Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. This has compelled Sony to explore alternative ways to market the film as a premium big-screen experience.
So far, this limitation hasn’t hindered ‘Spider-Man’. The film is receiving positive reactions from viewers, boasting a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which would make it the highest audience score among the nine live-action Spider-Man films. Its critics score stands at 90% Certified Fresh, just shy of ‘No Way Home’s’ 93%.
The early numbers have prompted some industry estimates to rise. NRG has projected an opening around $195 million domestically, while exhibitors and tracking services like Greenlight Analytics suggest the film could potentially reach between $260 million and $300 million.
While these figures remain estimates and could fluctuate as the weekend progresses, ‘Brand New Day’ has already established one thing: audiences are eager to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in a significant way.
The film now faces a crucial question: Can it maintain this momentum through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to challenge the largest opening weekend records ever?
For now, ‘Spider-Man’ is swinging into theaters with a strong start, and the box office is shaping up to be one of the biggest stories of the summer.
