‘Star Trek Online’ Unites Three Generations Of Spock For Franchise’s 60th Anniversary
‘Star Trek‘ has always embraced its rich history, and this year’s significant anniversary is no different. As the franchise approaches 60 years, various facets of the ‘Trek’ universe are finding unique ways to celebrate this legacy, with one of the most ambitious tributes emerging from an unexpected source.
This tribute is coming from ‘Star Trek Online,’ the long-standing free-to-play MMORPG that has spent over a decade integrating familiar characters from across the franchise into its ever-growing universe. For its upcoming major content update, the game is focusing on one of ‘Trek’s most cherished characters, doing so in a manner that spans multiple eras.
The new season, titled ‘Rediscovered,’ will feature three distinct versions of Spock within a single storyline. Ethan Peck, who portrays a younger Spock in ‘Strange New Worlds,’ will return to officially voice the character as Lieutenant Spock. Meanwhile, Piotr Michael will voice an older Captain Spock from the era of ‘Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.’
Completing this trio is something truly special for a modern release: restored archival dialogue from the late Leonard Nimoy, allowing his original portrayal as Commander Spock to be part of a brand-new narrative more than a decade after his passing. Notably, Zachary Quinto, who plays the character in the Kelvin timeline films, is not involved in this project, leaving fans with these three unique Spocks to enjoy.
‘Rediscovered’ continues the game’s ongoing remaster of its fan-favorite “The Ultimate Klingon” storyline, which initially began with the earlier “Undiscovered” arc. According to a joint statement from Arc Games and Cryptic Studios, this new chapter sees time itself beginning to fracture across the galaxy, triggered by the mysterious disappearances of key figures from the Federation and Klingon Empire.
“Captains must unravel the mystery behind the disappearances of Lieutenant Miral Paris and Ambassador B’vat,” the developers explained. “Her final message on the Gateway Planet will send players on a temporal chase across Star Trek history where captains meet Spock through the ages and continue the quest to stop B’vat.” Lisa LoCicero returns as Lieutenant Miral Paris, while Jon St. John reprises his role as B’vat across multiple timelines.
The update will not be limited to just the new Spock storyline. As part of the game’s 60th anniversary celebration, ‘Star Trek Online’ is also introducing a special Starship Icons Prize Pack, giving players the chance to win one of 60 different starships, with the grand prize being a brand-new Constitution Pilot Multi-Mission Cruiser modeled after the flagship from ‘Strange New Worlds.’
For players eager to dive into the new era-spanning content, the timing will vary by platform. PC players will be the first to access ‘Rediscovered’ when it launches on September 22, while PlayStation and Xbox players will have to wait until November 10 to experience the update on consoles.
This kind of multi-generational crossover fits perfectly into what is shaping up to be a packed year for ‘Star Trek’ overall, as the franchise heavily leans into nostalgia and legacy talent during its 60th anniversary celebrations. With returning voice actors, archival performances, and storylines designed to connect different eras of the franchise, ‘Star Trek Online’ is positioning itself as one of the more ambitious elements of that broader celebration.
With three separate versions of one of ‘Trek’s most iconic characters embarking on the same adventure, ‘Rediscovered’ is poised to be a genuine delight for longtime fans who have followed Spock through every era of the franchise’s history.
