A fresh story synopsis for ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ has emerged, offering fans a glimpse into what to expect from this upcoming installment in the beloved franchise.

According to IMDb, the film will center on “a solitary pilot” navigating a galaxy still in the process of recovery following significant events from the previous saga. The synopsis states: “In a rebuilding galaxy, a solitary pilot becomes entangled in a crucial mission as new threats emerge. Their journey may alter the future of the Force itself.”

Set approximately five years after the events of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’, the movie will primarily introduce new characters. Leading the cast is Ryan Gosling, alongside Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Flynn Gray, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.

Shawn Levy, known for his work on ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, is directing the film after years of attempting to develop his own ‘Star Wars’ project with Lucasfilm. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, reportedly encouraged Levy to infuse his unique style and tone into the franchise. The screenplay was penned by Jonathan Tropper, a collaborator of Levy’s.

Development of the film began in 2022, but production faced delays due to the 2023 writers’ strike. Filming resumed and officially commenced in the United Kingdom in 2025, with portions shot in Sardinia, Italy, before production concluded later that year.

Described as a standalone narrative rather than the start of a new trilogy, ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ may still feature some characters from the sequel era. There have been rumors about Daisy Ridley’s Rey potentially returning, although no official confirmations have been made.

‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is currently slated for theatrical release on May 28, 2027.
