Supergirl is gearing up to play a more significant role in the new DC Universe, with Kara Zor-El’s journey extending beyond her upcoming solo film. As fans anticipate Milly Alcock’s portrayal in ‘Supergirl’, fresh insights reveal that the hero will return in another major DCU project following ‘Man of Tomorrow’.

This update comes from ‘Supergirl’ executive producer Lars P. Winther, who shared details about the character’s future during the film’s premiere event. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Winther confirmed that Kara will make an appearance in the next chapter of the DCU after the forthcoming Superman sequel.

The project in question is ‘Man of Tomorrow’, the sequel to 2025’s ‘Superman’, which is currently in production. Winther disclosed that Alcock will be part of the film and hinted at where Kara’s narrative will lead after her own movie.

“Without giving too much away, this movie ends a particular way, and you see where she’s going to end up. She’s done her wild ways, and now she’s going to try to get back in with her cousin and be more on Earth again,” Winther told The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming ‘Supergirl’ film is set to introduce a distinctly different version of Kara compared to previous adaptations. Rather than solely focusing on her connection to Superman, the movie will delve into her personal experiences, trauma, and identity as she navigates her place within the broader DC Universe.

Based on the comic ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Matheus Lopes, the film takes Kara away from Earth and into a grand intergalactic adventure. The narrative aims to highlight the contrasts between Superman and Supergirl, particularly as their experiences with Krypton differ significantly.

Winther elaborated that Kara’s history provides her with a unique emotional journey. Unlike Superman, who left Krypton as an infant, Kara remembers her home planet and witnessed its destruction at a much older age.

“She didn’t leave Krypton when she was a baby like Superman. She left when she was like 12, 13 years old. There’s definitely some emotional stuff here because she’s leaving when she’s close to her parents, and she sees their demise,” Winther stated.

The decision to continue Kara’s story after ‘Man of Tomorrow’ indicates that DC Studios views Supergirl as a vital component of its future plans. The character is anticipated to help expand the Superman family while also introducing a different narrative style to the franchise.

‘Supergirl’ director Craig Gillespie also explained that the film is crafted to stand independently rather than merely setting up future projects. He mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that James Gunn aims for each DCU movie to feel like a complete story.

“We are treating each of these as their own graphic novel. This is your graphic novel,” Gillespie remarked.

Nevertheless, the director acknowledged that Kara’s journey is far from over and expressed enthusiasm about where the character might go next. With her appearance in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ already confirmed, fans will have another opportunity to follow the hero after her solo adventure.

As the new DC Universe continues to evolve, Supergirl seems poised to become one of its central figures. Her next appearance could play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Superman family and demonstrating how Kara fits into the expansive world that DC Studios is constructing.
