Marvel’s upcoming mutant ensemble has been gradually taking shape for months, with director Jake Schreier quietly assembling a cast that already features some familiar names. Sadie Sink has joined the MCU as Jean Grey through ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ while Samara Weaving and Kit Connor have been linked to Emma Frost and Cyclops as the studio gears up for its long-awaited ‘X-Men’ reboot.

One role that remains shrouded in mystery is Storm, the weather-controlling Kenyan mutant who has been a key figure in the X-Men roster since the comics’ inception. As casting continues ahead of a rumored 2028 release, fans have been speculating about who might embody the character, and this week, a new name has surfaced.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed on the August 13 episode of his podcast ‘The Hot Mic’ that 26-year-old French actress Suzy Bemba is currently in talks for the role. Sneider mentioned that this tip came from a source who previously identified Kit Connor’s involvement in the project, lending more credibility to the rumor than typical social media chatter.

Bemba is not entirely unknown to film audiences. She gained wider recognition for her performance in ‘Poor Things’ alongside Emma Stone, began her career in the horror film ‘Kandisha,’ and has a supporting role in the upcoming thriller ‘Cliffhanger’ opposite Lily James. Additionally, she was selected for the European Shooting Stars program at the Berlin International Film Festival and founded a professional support association for French actors.

The rumor quickly sparked a divide among X-Men fans online. A significant portion of the fanbase had rallied around Jayme Lawson as their preferred choice for Storm, and Bemba’s name entering the discussion triggered a wave of pushback from those still hoping to see Lawson land the role.

Others noted that Bemba’s darker complexion aligns more closely with the character’s comic-accurate appearance, while her relative youth compared to some rumored candidates could provide Marvel with the flexibility to eventually pair her with a new T’Challa in future ‘Black Panther’ films. This possibility has fueled speculation that Ryan Coogler, who has been linked to the broader search for Storm, may have influenced this direction, even though Schreier remains the film’s director.

Responding directly on X to fans criticizing the report, Sneider defended both his source and Bemba, stating that “you Jayme Lawson fans are delusional” for assuming the internet gets to cast every superhero movie. He added that the choice, if accurate, “feels like the work of Ryan Coogler, the guy who discovered Miles Caton,” highlighting the director’s history of uncovering new talent.

Sneider was also careful to express his own uncertainty about the scoop, describing it as coming from a single well-established source rather than something he considers fully confirmed. Still, given his track record with past X-Men casting reports, the rumor has generated enough buzz to keep fans engaged, especially with D23 approaching this weekend, an event Sneider anticipates could unveil additional casting news.

Nothing about Storm’s casting has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, and with the film still in early development, many changes could occur before an official announcement is made. For now, Bemba’s name adds to a growing list of talent associated with one of the MCU’s most anticipated ensembles.
