Sydney Sweeney Shares Insights on ‘Euphoria’ Cast Knowing Rue’s Death Twist

Sydney Sweeney recently opened up about the conclusion of ‘Euphoria’ and what the cast was aware of regarding Rue’s storyline prior to its reveal. In a recent interview with Variety, she discussed her character Cassie Howard and reflected on the show’s final season.

Sweeney explained that the cast often did not receive complete scripts for the series. Instead, they were typically given only their individual scenes, which meant they were unaware of the overall narrative until much later.

She revealed that the cast had prior knowledge that Rue’s storyline would conclude dramatically. Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, has been a pivotal character since the series began. Sweeney noted that the cast had been aware of this direction for quite some time, even if they lacked specific details.

She stated, “We didn’t get all the scripts. We were only given our specific scenes. We all knew that Rue was going to get killed off — we knew that for a long, long time — but no idea how, when it was going to happen.”

Due to this limited access to the complete story, even the actors were sometimes taken aback when they finally viewed the finished episodes. Sweeney mentioned that watching the ending unfold felt like a viewer experience for her, as she was not fully aware of how everything would connect.

She described witnessing Rue’s final moments as emotional and surprising. Although she was aware of the general trajectory of the storyline, she still had a strong reaction when she saw it on screen. She remarked, “So when I was watching it with everybody else, it was actually the first time that I even uncovered what was going to happen. I was crying.”

‘Euphoria’, created by Sam Levinson for HBO, is renowned for its intense storytelling and emotional character arcs. The series follows a group of teenagers grappling with addiction, relationships, trauma, and identity. Rue is central to much of the show’s emotional weight, and her journey has significantly influenced the series’ tone from the start.
