The ‘Yellowstone’ universe has expanded rapidly since Taylor Sheridan’s flagship drama debuted, giving rise to prequels, present-day spinoffs, and a seemingly endless array of Dutton family narratives across various networks. With titles like ‘1883’, ‘1923’, ‘Y: Marshals’, and ‘The Madison’, fans have become accustomed to Sheridan broadening his storytelling horizons in nearly every conceivable direction.

However, one project has remained in development limbo for years, despite considerable fan anticipation. The proposed ‘6666’ series, which centers on the real-life Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, was first announced in 2021, with speculation intensifying after Jefferson White’s character, Jimmy Hurdstrom, was sent to work at the ranch during ‘Yellowstone’s’ fourth season.

That speculation has now been definitively put to rest. In a recent appearance on the Rodeo Time podcast, Sheridan confirmed that the ‘6666’ spinoff will not be happening, effectively closing the book on one of the franchise’s most enduring rumors.

“There’s never going to be one,” Sheridan stated. “I would never fictionalize that ranch.” He elaborated, “People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.”

Sheridan’s reasoning goes beyond mere creative choice. The Four Sixes Ranch is not just a filming location for him; he, along with a group of investors, purchased the historic 156-year-old property in 2020 following the passing of former owner Anne Windfohr Marion. This ownership appears to have influenced his decision to avoid turning it into a scripted drama.

Sheridan explained that dramatizing the real ranch and its workers would necessitate fabricating storylines that do not accurately represent the lives of its cowboys and their families. “So now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work and they raise their families there,” he said. “And I could never do that to them. I could never do that to the cowboys who’ve dedicated themselves and everybody that works on that ranch.”

This level of personal investment distinguishes ‘6666’ from Sheridan’s other ‘Yellowstone’-adjacent projects, which revolve around fictional characters, even when inspired by real ranching culture. Sheridan also revealed that he has compiled all of Jimmy’s scenes from his time at the ranch into a standalone cut, describing it as watching the character “go there as this misfit, and leave as a man and a respected cowboy.”

This decision effectively retcons years of assumptions surrounding the spinoff’s eventual release, especially since ‘Yellowstone’ director Christina Voros had previously suggested in December 2024 that Sheridan had “left some doors open” for projects like ‘6666’ and the prequel series ‘1944.’ Sheridan’s recent comments now clarify that this door has been firmly shut, at least for this particular concept.

Nonetheless, the broader ‘Yellowstone’ universe shows no signs of slowing down. Both ‘Dutton Ranch’, which follows Beth and Rip after the flagship series’ finale, and ‘Y: Marshals’, starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, have ranked among the top-rated shows of the 2025-2026 season, demonstrating that there remains a strong audience appetite for Sheridan’s expanding world.

With Sheridan continuing to develop new projects even after transitioning from his overall deal at Paramount to a new arrangement with NBCUniversal, fans can expect the franchise’s growth to continue, albeit without ‘6666’ as part of the lineup. Given how deeply personal his connection to the ranch has become, it’s evident that some stories matter too much to Sheridan to be transformed into fiction.
