‘The Batman Part 2’ Still Not Ready, Says Warner Bros. Execs – New Trailer Still a Long Way Off

Fans of The Batman will need to wait a little longer. According to Warner Bros. executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, The Batman – Part II is still not ready. The news comes after the movie has already been delayed more than once.
The sequel, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, was first planned for release in October 2025. But it was pushed to 2026, and now it’s been delayed again to 2027. The movie has run into several delays during development.
In a recent interview with Deadline, De Luca and Abdy shared an update that may disappoint fans. The script is still not finished. They said, “[Matt Reeves] is a writer/directing auteur in his own right,” and added, “It will come when he’s written his best ‘Batman’ script and is ready.“
They also mentioned that they’re not closely involved in the DC side of things. “We’re not in the weeds on the ‘Batman’ stuff. It’s really James [Gunn] and Peter Safran who run DC. We have a bit of other collaboration with Matt Reeves, but Peter and James know he is a writer/directing auteur in his own right, and that it will come when he’s written his best ‘Batman’ script and is ready.“
This matches what James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, said back in December 2024. He posted on Threads, “Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.“
Some sources have said a version of the script has been shared with certain cast members. But there has been no official word from the people working directly on the movie.
Back in February 2025, actor Andy Serkis gave a small update during a panel at MegaCon. He said, “I’ve been told… the story,” but confirmed he hadn’t seen the full script yet.
