‘The Boys’ Finale Episode Length Confirmed for Season 5 Release
Fans of The Boys are gearing up for the series finale as the last episode of season 5 is set to premiere next week on Prime Video. This final episode, episode 8, will officially conclude the long-running series, as confirmed by reports from AMC Theatres and the streaming platform.
Over the years, the show has garnered a dedicated fanbase, and the final season has been packed with significant twists and dramatic turns. Following the events of episode 7, viewers are eagerly anticipating the climactic showdown with Homelander as the narrative approaches its conclusion.
One of the most discussed aspects leading up to the finale is its runtime. AMC Theatres has confirmed that the final episode will last for 1 hour and 5 minutes. This announcement has surprised some fans who were hoping for a longer finale to adequately wrap up the story, especially considering the numerous plot threads still in play.
Concerns have already surfaced online regarding whether this runtime will suffice. One fan expressed on X, “The Boys finale needs to be about 2.5 hours long.” Another remarked, “The finale of The Boys only being an hour and not two is baffling to me. How are we wrapping this s** up in two episodes??? I feel like there’s still so much to do??”*
The release schedule has also been confirmed. In the UK, new episodes of The Boys season 5 will be available on Prime Video at 8am. Additionally, the final episode will be screened early in select cinemas in the US and Canada, with a scheduled showing at 9:30pm on May 19, ahead of its streaming release.

Showrunner Eric Kripke has previously discussed how the series finale came together. In an interview with CBR, he explained that the decision involved discussions with both the studio and the streaming platform. He stated, “I don’t have the power to just say, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna end it, and that’s it, you guys.’ They’re the ones who own it, and they’re making money off it, right?”
He added, “You have to say to them, ‘So, this thing that’s really profitable for you, I need you to end it for creative integrity,’ and that takes some convincing.”
Kripke also mentioned that the team reached a mutual understanding about concluding the show, adding, “To their credit, I think they really believed in the creativity and really believed in what the writers and I were trying to do, and then they let us get away with it.”
As the final episode approaches, fans are focused on how the long-running story will come to a close in the last hour of the series.
