‘The Gentlemen’ Renewed for Season 3 Ahead of Season 2 Premiere
It’s uncommon for streamers to greenlight a third season before audiences have had a chance to view the second, but Netflix is demonstrating remarkable confidence in one of its latest hits. Guy Ritchie’s stylish crime drama has cultivated a dedicated fanbase over the past two years, and the platform is clearly eager to maintain that momentum.
‘The Gentlemen’ debuted on Netflix in March 2024, originating from Ritchie’s 2020 film of the same name and quickly ascending the platform’s global charts. The series centers on Eddie Horniman, portrayed by Theo James, who unexpectedly inherits his aristocratic family’s estate, only to find it also serves as a vast criminal empire he must navigate alongside Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass.
Netflix has officially announced the show’s renewal for a third season, with the news coming just days before Season 2’s global release on September 3. This timing is strategic, as the streamer is betting on the sophomore season’s success even before it reaches viewers.
Ritchie shared his thoughts on the decision to expand the story further. “The ambition of ‘The Gentlemen’ has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further,” Ritchie stated in the renewal announcement.
Season 2 picks up a year after the first season, following Eddie and Susie as they continue to grow their illicit operation. This time, the narrative extends beyond the English countryside, venturing into Italy and introducing the Italian mafia as a new conflict element, with Hugh Bonneville and Michele Morrone joining the cast for what Netflix describes as a darker, more expansive chapter.
This international escalation seems to be what prompted Netflix to secure a third season so early. Production for Season 3 is reportedly set to begin later this year, although specific plot details for the upcoming installment remain closely guarded.

The renewal news coincides with reports linking Meghan Markle to a potential role in Season 3. Deadline first suggested the Duchess of Sussex was being considered for a “high-profile” UK-based project following her family’s plans to relocate back to the United Kingdom, although they emphasized that discussions were still in very early stages.
However, speculation took a turn over the weekend, with Tina Brown’s newsletter reporting that Markle had been dropped from consideration entirely. “The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward,” Brown wrote about the reported collapse of talks. Netflix declined to comment on Markle’s potential involvement when asked.
Reports indicate that the timing of today’s official Season 3 confirmation was not merely coincidental with the Markle news cycle. The renewal had reportedly been in the works internally since late spring or early summer, suggesting Netflix opted to expedite the public announcement amid the surrounding buzz and speculation rather than making a reactive decision.
This distinction is significant for a series that has clearly become one of Netflix’s more reliable global performers, with Season 1 spending ten weeks on the platform’s Global Top 10 English language TV chart following its debut. With Season 2 set to broaden the show’s scope even further and Season 3 already secured before the new episodes premiere, ‘The Gentlemen’ seems well-positioned as one of Netflix’s flagship ongoing crime dramas for the foreseeable future.
