‘The Long Walk’ Star Cooper Hoffman Is Reportedly Marvel’s Top Choice for Cyclops in ‘X-Men’ Reboot
Marvel Studios is actively piecing together its much-anticipated ‘X-Men‘ reboot, and the buzz around casting has reached a fever pitch as the studio works to finalize its key players. Jake Schreier, who recently directed ‘Thunderbolts’, is at the helm of this project, with writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo reportedly hard at work on the script.
For weeks, various names have been circulating, from Adam Driver rumored for a villain role to Bill Skarsgard being considered for a younger version of Professor X. While none of these reports have been officially confirmed by Marvel or major trade publications, the information is coming from insiders with a track record of reliability.
The latest name to emerge in this casting conversation is perhaps the most surprising. According to industry insider Apocalyptic Horseman, Cooper Hoffman is being considered for the role of Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men.
Another insider, MTTSH, further claims that Hoffman is Marvel’s top choice for the role, rather than just one of several candidates. The son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cooper has garnered acclaim for his performances in ‘The Long Walk’, ‘Licorice Pizza’, and ‘Poetic License’, showcasing a dramatic range rather than action-oriented roles.
This casting rumor has sparked debate among fans, as Cyclops has typically been depicted as a confident, square-jawed leader, contrasting with Hoffman’s previous roles. If true, this would mark a significant departure from the traditional portrayal of the character.
At 23 years old, Hoffman would be around the same age as Sadie Sink, who is rumored to be cast as Jean Grey in the expanding Marvel mutant universe, following her expected appearance in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. This aligns with Marvel boss Kevin Feige’s comments about a youth-oriented direction for the reboot.
Regardless of the outcome of this rumor, Hoffman’s career is gaining momentum. He is set to star in Hulu’s drama pilot ‘Durango’ alongside Kathryn Newton and has several films in post-production, including Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Artificial’ and ‘The Chaperones’.
It’s important to note that none of this information has been confirmed by Marvel Studios, and insiders have indicated that Hoffman may not be the only actor under consideration for Cyclops. The ‘X-Men’ reboot is still in its early stages, with filming anticipated to start next year, although pre-production could ramp up before the end of 2026.
As San Diego Comic-Con approaches, fans can expect the speculation surrounding Cyclops and the rest of the mutant cast to intensify. Whether Hoffman will don the iconic ruby quartz visors remains uncertain.
