‘The Pitt’ Star Isa Briones Calls Out Fans for Yelling TV References During ‘Just In Time’ Run
Isa Briones has a clear message: Broadway is not a fan convention. The actress, known for her role as Dr. Trinity Santos on the hit HBO series ‘The Pitt’, took to Instagram on Saturday to address theatergoers who have been shouting references to her TV character while she performs on stage.
Currently, Briones is portraying Connie Francis in the Broadway jukebox musical ‘Just in Time’ at the Circle in the Square Theatre. This production tells the story of legendary singer-songwriter Bobby Darin, and Briones joined the cast on April 1, succeeding Gracie Lawrence. The shift from a hospital setting to the stage makes the audience’s behavior even more surprising.
In her Instagram Story, Briones made her feelings known. She called out audience members who yelled, “when are you going to finish your charts?” just before she began her performance of “Who’s Sorry Now?” This phrase references a recurring theme in ‘The Pitt’, where her character Dr. Santos often faces criticism for not completing her patient documentation.
She elaborated in a follow-up post, stating that Broadway audiences should not behave like “a kid at Disneyland” and reminded them that they are “an adult man at a Broadway show,” urging them to act appropriately. Briones emphasized that performers should not be addressed as their on-screen characters while on stage.

This performance marks Briones’s return to Broadway after making her debut in 2024 as Eurydice in ‘Hadestown’. She is experienced in live performances, having been part of the first national touring company of ‘Hamilton’. Her role as Connie Francis is expected to run until September 6, when the production is set to close.
Fans of ‘The Pitt’ recognize the irony of the situation. The charting joke is integral to Dr. Santos’s storyline, with her character frequently reprimanded for neglecting her paperwork. The season finale even featured Briones in a musical moment, as Santos and Dr. Mel King performed a karaoke duet of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” during the closing credits. This indicates that audiences were already aware of her singing talent; they just needed to save their applause for after the curtain call.
‘The Pitt’ has emerged as one of HBO’s most discussed dramas, with its first season garnering 13 Emmy nominations and winning five, including best drama series, best actor for Noah Wyle, and best supporting actress for Katherine LaNasa. The show’s second season is anticipated to be a strong contender at the upcoming Emmy Awards. This level of cultural relevance is clearly following Briones offstage, which is the very issue she is asking fans to leave behind.
