ABC’s The Rookie has wrapped up its eighth season with a significant ratings surge, demonstrating that the beloved police drama continues to resonate with audiences. According to Nielsen National Live+7 Day Big Data Plus Panel ratings, the Season 8 finale attracted 9.25 million total viewers across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and various digital platforms.

Airing on May 4, the finale delivered a gripping conclusion featuring a long-anticipated “Chenford” proposal and a shocking twist that sparked conversations among fans. This episode not only concluded the season but also contributed to an increase in viewership compared to the previous year.

In comparison to the Season 7 finale, which garnered 8.93 million viewers in 2025, the latest episode experienced a 4% rise in total viewership. This growth capped off a three-week streak of increasing numbers, making it the series’ most-watched episode in over three months.

As per the same Nielsen data, the finale achieved a season-high rating among adults aged 18–49, earning a 2.1. This performance in the key demographic is particularly vital for broadcast television, indicating that the series continues to draw in younger viewers alongside its loyal fanbase.

Nielsen ratings have also confirmed that The Rookie has shown consistent growth over multiple seasons. The 2025–26 season marked the fourth consecutive year the series has increased both total viewers and key demographic ratings. Its audience has significantly expanded across both traditional TV and streaming platforms in recent years.

Earlier in the season, the premiere episode also performed admirably, reaching 9.35 million viewers and establishing a new streaming high for a season opener in over six years. This momentum continued throughout the season, with consistent engagement across platforms like Hulu and Disney+ boosting overall numbers.

Starring Nathan Fillion, the show has garnered a strong following among younger demographics. Nielsen’s multi-platform tracking indicates it ranks as the No. 1 broadcast drama among adults 18–34 and performs well with teens aged 12–17. A significant factor in its recent popularity has been viral moments on social media platforms like TikTok, which have introduced the series to new audiences.

In addition to the finale’s success, ABC has confirmed that The Rookie will return for Season 9 in 2027. A new spinoff titled The Rookie: North, featuring Jay Ellis, has also been greenlit, further expanding the franchise.

With consistent ratings growth, impressive streaming numbers, and ongoing social media buzz, The Rookie remains one of ABC’s most dependable drama hits even after eight seasons.
