‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Streaming Release Date Set After Box Office Triumph
‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ is set to leave theaters and make its streaming debut. Following its remarkable success, surpassing $1 billion in global earnings, the animated film will be available on Peacock starting July 30.
This announcement comes after the movie completed an impressive box office run, marking another significant achievement for Nintendo and Illumination. Directed by Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, and Pierre Leduc, the film is a continuation of the creative team behind the highly successful ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ which also ranked among the top-grossing films of 2023.
In ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,’ the filmmakers broadened the Mario universe, taking beloved characters beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into an expansive space adventure. The film resonated with audiences globally, quickly becoming the highest-grossing movie of the year and crossing the $1 billion milestone earlier this month.

The sequel also brought back many familiar voices from the first film. Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario, with Charlie Day returning as Luigi. Anya Taylor-Joy is back as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key continues his role as Toad.
New characters join the adventure with an expanded voice cast, including Donald Glover as Yoshi, Brie Larson voicing Rosalina, Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Junior.
The film’s success continues the fruitful collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination. In a recent interview with Forbes, Nintendo creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri discussed the decision to adapt ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ for the big screen.
Miyamoto noted that the galaxy setting “clicked as a key to creating the next movie.” He emphasized that this concept allowed the team to explore a “different side” of Mario while crafting a new world filled with exciting possibilities.
Meledandri also explained that bringing Nintendo’s space-themed world to theaters was an exhilarating opportunity. He expressed that the idea of creating a grand cinematic version of Nintendo’s universe was appealing, stating, “The promise of creating Nintendo’s world of space felt like an irresistible invitation for audiences to go ‘Ah, I want to see how they are going to fill up that giant screen with Nintendo’s vision of space,’” he said.
While there has been no official announcement regarding a third movie, fans have reasons to speculate about another adventure. The ending of ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ features a post-credits scene introducing Daisy, a beloved character from the Mario franchise, hinting at potential future stories.
For now, fans who missed the theatrical release or wish to relive Mario’s latest adventure can look forward to watching it at home when it premieres on Peacock.
