‘The Whisper Man’ Star Robert De Niro Calls for Prince Andrew to Apologize Over Epstein Links
Few scandals have rocked the British monarchy in recent years like the fallout from the Epstein files. Central to this controversy is Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Prince Andrew, whose association with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein has cost him his royal status and dominated headlines. Now, a prominent Hollywood figure has weighed in on the matter.
The repercussions for Andrew have been significant. The King stripped him of his royal titles late last year, and he subsequently relinquished his long lease on Royal Lodge in Windsor, opting for a more modest residence on the Sandringham estate. In February, he was arrested on his 66th birthday, marking him as the most senior royal figure arrested in modern history.
Robert De Niro has now publicly addressed this situation, urging the former prince to take responsibility for his connection with Epstein and to withdraw his legal challenge against the police. The Oscar-winning actor made these comments at a New York event this week, drawing attention across the Atlantic.
De Niro spoke in Washington Square Park on Monday evening at an event advocating for the release of more unredacted Epstein files. He was joined by Rosie O’Donnell and survivors of Epstein’s crimes. The gathering also aimed to encourage voter participation in the upcoming midterms.
When asked by The Sun if Andrew should publicly apologize and take responsibility, De Niro affirmed, stating that everyone involved should do so. He further suggested that the former prince should abandon his lawsuit against the police.
Robert De Niro spoke at the Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Bookmobile event today in NYC:
“The three and a half million files in the Trump-Epstein bookmobile tell only half the story. One man is standing in the way of releasing the rest: Donald Trump.
What is he hiding? Here’s a clue. In the entire New Testament, there are just under a thousand mentions of Jesus. In the first half of the Epstein files, there are thirty-eight thousand mentions of Trump, his family, and private club.
Thirty-eight thousand. What is he hiding?
We all know how he has no regard for anyone but himself. It’s impossible to imagine him protecting anyone but himself. So what is he hiding?”

De Niro’s comments come at a crucial time. Andrew has initiated a judicial review requesting the High Court to assess whether Thames Valley Police acted lawfully when they obtained warrants to search his Sandringham home and his former Royal Lodge residence. These warrants were issued by a judge at the Central Criminal Court on February 18.
A High Court hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. before Mr Justice Hilliard. This session will commence in private and concerns a police effort to limit access to court documents related to the case. Andrew seeks to have the warrants quashed, which would make him the first royal in modern times to challenge this type of action.
It’s important to clarify the legal stakes involved. Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, following allegations that he shared sensitive information with Epstein while serving as Britain’s trade envoy. He was interviewed for approximately 11 hours and released under investigation.
He has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing. He has previously expressed regret over his friendship with Epstein. The judicial review itself does not determine whether he committed any offense; it merely examines the legality of the police actions behind the searches.
De Niro’s remarks are part of a broader campaign. At the same event, he commended the bravery of survivors and criticized President Trump regarding the remaining files, calling for their immediate release. His comments were both political and moral, reflecting how the Epstein case continues to intersect with law, politics, and entertainment.
On the British front, the pressure has not diminished. At least nine police forces in the UK have indicated they are investigating claims arising from the files, some of which relate to Andrew. For survivors and advocates, the primary demand remains transparency and accountability for everyone involved in the case.
Celebrity involvement in a legal and political saga like this can have mixed effects. Supporters view it as a means to maintain public focus on survivors and the unreleased documents. Critics may argue that a famous actor commenting on an ongoing legal matter adds more heat than light.
Regardless, De Niro’s comments have already heightened the profile of the story. With the High Court hearing underway and a police investigation still active, the coming weeks could significantly influence how this chapter concludes for Andrew.
