With ‘Toy Story 5’ just days away from its theatrical release, Tim Allen is celebrating by revisiting Buzz Lightyear’s most cherished lines from the franchise. A recent clip showcases Allen delivering one of Buzz’s classic quotes, including the memorable “This isn’t flying, this is falling with style,” eliciting a warm and immediate response from fans.

Allen first brought Buzz Lightyear to life in the original ‘Toy Story’ back in 1995, alongside Tom Hanks as Woody. At that time, neither actor could have predicted they would still be reprising their roles over three decades later. Allen was 42 during the first film’s release, and he will turn 73 when ‘Toy Story 5’ premieres on June 19.

The 72-year-old actor recently appeared on SiriusXM with co-stars Tom Hanks, Greta Lee, and Conan O’Brien to promote the upcoming film. During the conversation, he shared that voicing Buzz has led to some unexpected situations in his daily life. Allen explained that his voice is so closely linked to the character that he often refrains from speaking in public at sporting events, with his wife Jane Hajduk reminding him to whisper if he needs anything to avoid attracting attention.

This level of recognition has brought its own set of creative challenges. Allen has mentioned that those around him pointed out that Buzz was starting to sound a bit older, prompting him to work on recapturing the character’s youthful energy for the new film. He has also reflected on the creative freedom Pixar provided him from the start, allowing the character to evolve significantly as he infused his own instincts into the role.

As for what fans can anticipate from ‘Toy Story 5’, Allen has hinted that Buzz plays a central role in what he describes as an “unbelievable” opening sequence. The narrative will also shift focus to Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, who first joined the series in ‘Toy Story 2’. Allen confirmed that Woody and Buzz “realign” in this new installment, a reunion that is particularly emotional for fans, especially after the conclusion of ‘Toy Story 4’ where the duo parted ways.

Allen has also teased what he believes to be the funniest moment in the film, describing a scene involving a crashed plane carrying a hundred Buzz Lightyear toys, all trying to find their way back. He likened the tone of this sequence to the Tom Hanks survival film and called it “hysterical.”

Allen captured the spirit of the press tour in a recent post on X, sharing a nostalgic photo from the original 1995 production alongside a current image. He noted that he and Hanks appear as though they look like “our own children” in the throwback picture. For a franchise that encapsulates the bittersweet nature of growing up, this sentiment feels particularly poignant.
