Tom Holland has shared his thoughts on who could potentially carry on the Spider-Man legacy, sparking excitement among fans. While he’s not planning to step away from the role anytime soon, he has expressed his views on the future of the beloved superhero and who might eventually take the lead.

In an interview with Esquire, Holland mentioned that he would be eager to help usher in the next generation of Spider-Man characters when the time is right, and he already has a successor in mind.

“Owen Cooper would be awesome. Obviously he’s super-talented and the talk of the town right now.”

Owen Patrick Cooper, an English actor, gained international fame for his role as Jamie Miller in the Netflix miniseries Adolescence (2025). His outstanding performance garnered widespread acclaim and numerous prestigious awards, including a Primetime Emmy, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. Cooper made history as the youngest male winner of a Primetime Emmy and the youngest recipient of several other notable acting accolades.

Holland has previously expressed his desire to assist a new hero in stepping into the role, similar to how Robert Downey Jr. guided him when he first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man. Downey, who famously portrayed Iron Man, served as a crucial mentor both on and off screen during Holland’s early days in Marvel.

“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” Holland said. “Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Robert Downey Jr. did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”

Among the names he mentioned, Miles Morales stood out to many fans. The character has gained immense popularity in the Spider-Man universe thanks to Marvel Comics and the successful animated Spider-Verse films. Holland has previously shown interest in seeing Miles become a significant part of the live-action Marvel universe someday.

These comments come as Holland gears up for the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth standalone Spider-Man film featuring the British actor. After nearly a decade portraying Peter Parker, Holland remains closely tied to the character but is also contemplating the franchise’s future and how it can continue beyond his version of Spider-Man.

While some fans have speculated about Holland’s potential departure from the role, his recent remarks indicate that he is not planning to leave just yet. He has made it clear that he still enjoys playing Spider-Man and would gladly continue as long as audiences and Marvel want him around. At the same time, he recognizes that every superhero story eventually evolves.

Holland’s journey as Spider-Man began in 2016 when he debuted as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, he has become one of the most successful actors to don the iconic red-and-blue suit, starring in multiple Marvel blockbusters and contributing to the franchise’s billions in global box office earnings.

For now, Holland remains Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, when the time comes for someone new to take over, it’s evident that he hopes to play a role in passing the torch. Based on his latest comments, characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman are at the forefront of his vision for the future of the Spider-Man universe.
