Tom Holland Surpasses Zoe Saldaña to Become Highest-Grossing Actor of All Time
Tom Holland has spent nearly a decade establishing one of the most lucrative careers in modern Hollywood, primarily anchored by a franchise that has outperformed nearly every other blockbuster property of its time. Few actors have managed to achieve this level of sustained box office success with a single recurring role quite like Holland has with ‘Spider-Man’.
This dominance has accelerated significantly in recent weeks, driven by two major releases hitting theaters almost simultaneously. With Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, Holland has climbed the all-time box office rankings at a pace that has left industry observers genuinely astonished.
That climb has now reached its pinnacle. Tom Holland has officially become the highest-grossing actor of all time at the worldwide box office, surpassing Zoe Saldaña’s previous total of approximately $15.47 billion, according to figures reported by Variety India. Holland’s current total stands at around $15.5 billion, with ‘Brand New Day’ alone contributing more than $2.4 billion globally, followed by ‘The Odyssey’s’ $1.4 billion worldwide haul.
This milestone caps off an extraordinarily rapid ascent, even by blockbuster standards. As recently as early August, Holland ranked sixth on the all-time lead actor list with roughly $13.66 billion in career grosses, trailing behind Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Pratt. He surpassed all three within about a month, largely due to two well-timed 2026 releases.
What makes Holland’s achievement particularly remarkable is the relatively few films it took him to reach this point compared to the actors he surpassed. His per-film average as a lead actor is $622.1 million across 24 theatrical releases, the highest figure among the current top 10, comfortably ahead of Pratt’s $522.7 million and Saldaña’s $468.8 million averages.
At just 30 years old, Holland is also the youngest actor to ever reach the top of this list, a notable distinction considering how differently the two actors he just surpassed built their totals. Saldaña, 47, and Johansson, 41, accumulated their box office totals over decades-long careers spanning multiple franchises, while Holland achieved this milestone primarily through a single defining role and two perfectly timed releases this year.
Saldaña held the top position since January, when ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ pushed her past Johansson to claim the number one spot with roughly $15.47 billion in career earnings. Her total was built mainly across four films that grossed over $2 billion each, spanning both the ‘Avatar’ franchise and her Marvel Cinematic Universe roles as Gamora.
Holland’s path to the top has primarily been through Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, supplemented by his appearances in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. ‘Brand New Day’ marks his fourth solo Spider-Man film and seventh overall appearance within the Marvel universe, with the movie continuing to add to its worldwide total while still in theaters.
Given that both of Holland’s record-breaking films are still actively playing in theaters worldwide, his lead over the competition could continue to grow in the near future. With more Marvel appearances expected in the coming years, including additional Avengers installments, Holland seems well-positioned to maintain his hold on the top spot rather than simply passing through it briefly.
Whether Saldaña or Johansson will eventually reclaim the top position remains uncertain, especially once their franchises release new theatrical entries. For now, however, Holland’s remarkably efficient rise to the pinnacle of Hollywood’s all-time earnings chart stands as one of the more unexpected box office narratives of the year.
