Tom Holland is enthusiastic about the possibility of Spider-Man teaming up with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in an MCU TV project. This revelation comes from an interview with Empire magazine, which has been covering the latest developments surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the broader plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Both characters are set to share the screen in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, sparking interest among fans about how Spider-Man’s lighter demeanor will contrast with the Punisher’s darker, more intense persona.

Holland has also begun to consider the reverse scenario, where Spider-Man could make an appearance in a Punisher-centric project. He expressed his willingness to explore a different, more mature take on the character during the interview.

He shared, “I would love to pop up in one of [Punisher’s] shows. Let’s see what an R-rated version of Spider-Man looks like. I’m so grateful for Jon for taking the leap and being a part of the film, and I would love to repay the favour.”

This concept highlights the growing camaraderie between Holland and Bernthal, who have been friends for years. They supported each other during their early auditions for Marvel roles, and their bond has only strengthened with their upcoming collaboration in the MCU.

Bernthal also spoke about his relationship with Holland in the same interview, revealing that he was initially unfamiliar with the Punisher character. It was Holland who encouraged him to delve deeper into the role, fostering their connection long before they appeared together on screen.

The notion of Spider-Man appearing in a Punisher series would mark a significant tonal shift for the character. Traditionally, Spider-Man is featured in lighter, family-friendly narratives, while the Punisher inhabits a much darker and violent realm. Holland’s comments indicate a desire to explore how these contrasting styles could intersect in a thoughtful manner.

In the forthcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, both characters will be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and others. It continues Peter Parker’s journey following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where his identity was erased from public knowledge.

In this new film, Peter Parker is navigating life alone while fully embracing his role as Spider-Man, unbeknownst to the world. Meanwhile, Frank Castle, known as the Punisher, enters his narrative, creating a compelling dynamic between the two heroes.

Holland has described their on-screen relationship as one that evolves organically during filming. He noted that the two characters initially clash but eventually develop a rivalry akin to a “big brother and little brother” relationship.

The film is set to be released in July as part of the next phase of the MCU.

With Holland now openly discussing potential crossovers, the prospect of Spider-Man appearing in Marvel’s darker narratives seems more feasible than ever.
