What’s Next For Frank Castle After ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ in the MCU
Jon Bernthal is officially reprising his role as Frank Castle, and Marvel has exciting plans for the Punisher following ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’. This Disney+ special marks Bernthal’s second appearance in the MCU after ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 1, but it certainly won’t be the last time fans see him in action.
‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ serves as a stand-alone MCU Special Presentation that focuses entirely on Frank Castle. Unlike a full TV season, this project tells a self-contained story while providing viewers with a deeper insight into Frank’s emotional state following the events of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’. The special maintains the darker tone that fans have come to expect from Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’, which aired from 2017 to 2019.
Frank Castle has always sparked debate among Marvel fans due to his violent methods compared to other heroes. While characters like Spider-Man and Daredevil strive to avoid lethal force, Frank is known for using deadly measures against criminals. This has garnered him a loyal fanbase, though some view him as a character who blurs the lines between hero and villain.
As a result, Marvel has given ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ a mature rating. The project reportedly retains the brutal style of the Netflix series while delving into Frank’s mental struggles and grief. According to Jon Bernthal, the narrative aims to portray Frank at his most vulnerable emotional state.

Despite the title suggesting a conclusion, ‘One Last Kill’ is not the end of Frank Castle’s journey in the MCU. Marvel has confirmed that Bernthal will next appear in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, set to hit theaters on July 31. This film will mark the Punisher’s first appearance in an MCU movie and his first live-action film role in nearly two decades.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ features Tom Holland returning as Peter Parker after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. The film’s official premise reveals that Peter is now protecting New York anonymously after Doctor Strange’s spell erased the world’s memory of him. The story will reportedly focus on more street-level threats, which could explain Frank Castle’s inclusion in the film.
Fans are eager to see how the Punisher and Spider-Man will interact on screen. Frank Castle’s dark persona contrasts sharply with Peter Parker’s lighter, more optimistic outlook. As the two characters lack an established relationship in the MCU, their dynamic could emerge as one of the movie’s most intriguing surprises.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.
After ‘Brand New Day’, Marvel has not officially announced where Frank Castle will appear next. However, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 is already in the works, making it a likely venue for Bernthal’s return. With Kingpin remaining a significant threat in New York, fans anticipate Frank continuing his operations in the city alongside characters like Daredevil and possibly other Defenders from the Netflix era.
For now, Marvel appears committed to featuring the Punisher more prominently in the MCU. With ‘One Last Kill’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the character’s most significant years yet.
