Ryan Coogler’s anticipated reboot of ‘The X-Files’ is progressing, but fans shouldn’t expect a full season order anytime soon. One of the stars of the new series has shed light on why Hulu is taking its time before making a final decision.

Himesh Patel, who will star alongside Danielle Deadwyler, recently shared insights about the project during an interview with Virgin Radio UK. According to Patel, Hulu is proceeding cautiously with the show due to the existing large and dedicated fanbase of ‘The X-Files’.

Unlike many contemporary streaming projects that receive direct-to-series orders, Hulu is opting for a more traditional route by first ordering a pilot episode. This allows the studio to assess how the show develops before committing to a full season.

Patel emphasized that the team is keen to avoid rushing the process, ensuring that the new iteration honors the legacy of the original series. “Fingers crossed it will go on the right journey…I think it’s just not wanting…to rush it, especially when it’s a property like ‘The X-Files’ that is so precious to people.”

He also expressed his hope that if the story is compelling enough, the reboot could have a long run. “It would be great if the reboot ran for many years if you’ve got the story to tell.”

Starting with a pilot gives the creative team an opportunity to make early adjustments. It also helps Hulu gauge what works before investing in an entire season. This strategy has become less common in the streaming landscape, but Hulu has revived the pilot model for select projects.

The anticipation surrounding ‘The X-Files’ reboot is justified. The original series, created by Chris Carter, became one of the most beloved science fiction shows in television history, featuring David Duchovny as FBI agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully as they investigated bizarre cases involving aliens, paranormal phenomena, and unsolved mysteries.

The new version will follow a similar narrative style but will introduce a fresh set of characters. Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler are set to lead, with the pilot also featuring actors such as Steve Buscemi, Amy Madigan, Devery Jacobs, Tantoo Cardinal, Lochlyn Munro, Sofia Grace Clifton, and Joel Montgrand.

Ryan Coogler, acclaimed for directing films like ‘Black Panther’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, and ‘Sinners’, is both writing and directing the pilot. Jennifer Yale is on board as showrunner, while original ‘X-Files’ creator Chris Carter will serve as an executive producer.

Patel’s remarks indicate that the team is aware of the high expectations surrounding the franchise. Rather than hastily launching a new series, Hulu and the creators are committed to delivering a product that resonates with fans.

Patel is already recognized for his roles in projects like ‘Station Eleven’, ‘Yesterday’, ‘Tenet’, ‘Don’t Look Up’, and ‘The Franchise’. He is also set to appear in upcoming films such as ‘Enola Holmes 3’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’.

At this stage, the ‘The X-Files’ reboot is still in its early phases, and Hulu’s final decision will hinge on the pilot’s outcome. However, with Coogler at the helm and the team taking careful steps, fans have ample reasons to remain excited about what lies ahead.
