Zack Snyder’s timing is impeccable, or perhaps he possesses insights that elude the rest of us. On the very day the U.S. Department of Justice sanctioned Paramount’s significant acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the director of ‘Justice League’ shared an image showcasing the complete Justice League lineup on his Instagram, followed by a picture of Man of Steel. This has ignited excitement among fans.

The Justice Department’s antitrust regulators approved Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. on June 12. The approval came without any demands for divestitures, behavioral remedies, or concessions from Paramount, as the DOJ determined that the deal would not likely harm competition or American consumers in streaming, linear TV, or theatrical film distribution.

The merger, which was announced in late February, values Warner Bros. Discovery at an enterprise value of $110 billion and is projected to finalize in Q3 of this year. This deal will see Paramount, the owner of CBS and Paramount+, absorb the significantly larger Warner, which encompasses HBO, CNN, and the Warner Bros. movie studio, placing the combined entity under the leadership of media mogul David Ellison.

The implications of the merger for DC have sparked considerable discussion online. With the Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery deal progressing and talks of a potential SnyderVerse return, including a Justice League finale, Snyder’s post featuring the full League and captioned “The League United” resonates deeply with fans closely monitoring the situation.

Snyder has been increasingly sharing behind-the-scenes images and content from his DC films, with fans noting that he has never before posted so many DC-related images in such a brief period. Snyder has confirmed that his ‘Justice League’ films will coexist with James Gunn’s newly established DC Universe, which debuted theatrically with ‘Superman’ starring David Corenswet and has grossed $618.7 million worldwide.

State attorneys general may still pursue a lawsuit challenging the merger on antitrust grounds, with California’s Attorney General indicating that the deal remains under investigation by his office. The European Commission is also scrutinizing the deal under the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation, particularly due to the approximately $24 billion being provided for the acquisition by the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Therefore, the path to completion is not entirely clear.

Nevertheless, none of this uncertainty appears to be hindering Snyder. Whether his post is a strategic tease or merely a celebration from a filmmaker who understands his fanbase’s engagement with every upload, the timing is undeniably electrifying. The SnyderVerse fans are paying close attention, and at this moment, the phrase “The League United” seems to carry more significance than it has in a long time.
