Zendaya Shares Her Favorite Scene in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Zendaya has disclosed that ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ features a scene she has longed to perform throughout her career, though she remains tight-lipped about the specifics. The actress describes a moment in the film that she had “always envisioned doing a version of before” and is excited to finally bring it to life, hinting that audiences will recognize it when they see it. This tease is expertly crafted to ignite buzz online without revealing too much, and it’s certainly effective.
Her comments highlight how personal this installment has been for Zendaya, who has openly discussed the emotional intricacies of returning to the role of MJ after a four-year hiatus.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, she explained that reimagining MJ in adulthood was an exercise in filling in the blanks, noting it was “kind of fun to imagine what their lives have been like since we last saw them,” all while considering that Peter is completely absent from those memories.
This absence is a key tension in the narrative. In ‘Brand New Day,’ MJ has moved on and found a new love interest, unaware of Peter Parker’s existence due to the memory-wiping spell from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Meanwhile, Peter watches from afar, anonymously safeguarding a city that has completely forgotten him and his identity.
The emotional stakes of this premise provide both Holland and Zendaya with material that their earlier entries in the franchise could not offer.
The creative atmosphere on set has also significantly influenced the film’s quieter, character-driven moments. Tom Holland shared in an appearance on Variety that he and Zendaya identified a scene mid-production that they felt wasn’t working, and they brought their concerns directly to director Destin Daniel Cretton. The scene was rewritten and reshot the next day, with Holland stating that the revised version “sings in the movie.”
This kind of collaborative trust between the actors, as well as between the actors and their director, suggests a film shaped by genuine creative investment rather than mere franchise obligation. Zendaya’s hint about her favorite scene indicates that there is at least one moment in the film that holds significant personal meaning for her.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is set to hit theaters on July 31. The film also stars Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. With the second trailer already released and pre-sales showing strong interest, anticipation for the scene Zendaya has teased is only expected to grow as opening night approaches.
